I’m a freshman applying to an Honors US History class. For the application we have to write an essay. The essay prompt is: which of the purposes of our government described in the preamble are most important?
I sorta got off topic but it’s not too big of a deal. I was wondering if anyone can could give me constructive criticism

The Preamble of the United States Constitution

The Preamble of the United States Constitution does not have any considerable meaning; it does not give the government or citizens any power. However it is used to explain the purposes and sources of the United States Constitution. There are six main principles to the Preamble of the Unite States Constitution. They are, in no particular order, ensure domestic tranquility, establish justice, secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and form a more perfect union. Each one of these principles signifies certain aspects of the United States Constitution. Everyone interprets these principles differently and everyone has their own idea about what principle is most important.
The first principle of the Preamble of the United States Constitution is “to form a more perfect union”. To me, this signifies how our forefathers were striving for a country that was united, not separated by religious beliefs, political beliefs, social beliefs, etc. During the time period when the United States Constitution was being created, the federal government was small and weak, and couldn’t govern the states. I think this shows how the Constitution was going to fix this problem.
The second principle of the Preamble is to “establish justice”. I interpret this as legal equality. I think this was put in place to make fair laws. Under these fair laws all persons would be treated fairly, treated equally, and treated with respect. Unfortunately, even with laws put in place, corrupt politicians, upper class citizens, and many others are treated differently in the legal system.
The third principle of the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution is to “ensure domestic tranquility”. To me, this means to ensure peace within our own country. The federal government must maintain law and order throughout the country. This means providing services like the FBI, police, hospitals, fire departments, etc.
The fourth principle of the Preamble of the United States Constitution is to “provide for the common defense”. I interpret this as the government will protect all of its citizens if there were any foreign conflict. This means that the government will provide services for our defense such as, Army, Coast Guard, Navy, etc.
The fifth principle of the Preamble of the United States Constitution is to “promote the general welfare”. To me this means to protect the well being of our nations citizens. This means providing health care, collecting taxes, paying debts, etc.
The sixth principle of the Preamble of the United States Constitution is to “secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.” I think this means to secure rightful liberties for our generation and future generations. Unfortunately we don’t always follow this rule. For example, back then slaves did not have any rights. Even today certain groups of citizens don’t have the same rights such as homosexuals not being able to get married. Marriage is a right that every person in the United States should have.
Out of all of the purposes, or principles, I like domestic tranquility the most out of all the purposes in the preamble. Without insuring domestic tranquility there would be no law and order. Imagine a country where citizens can disobey the laws and have no consequences for their actions. If there was no domestic tranquility would there be police officers, or hospitals, or the FBI? In all honesty I don’t think any of the purposes of our government is more important than another. We have a complex set of rules for a reason. Without all of these purposes of government working together I don’t think our country would be where it is at today.
The Preamble of the United States Constitution is a very significant document. Although it has no power or considerable meaning I think it is significant because it shows us what our forefathers wanted for their country.
