Help Me with My Hair Problems!!

My routine is very similar to LasMa’s. I love it! Even when I go out in the wind, it still looks good. I have gotten SO many more compliments than I used to, when I tried to control my uncontrollable hair.

Another option would be to put in large rollers toward the end of the drying process, maybe 4 or so around the crown. That will give you lift and tame the top some.

too bad I can’t see your heads!!! Lol. Thanks for the tips, Ladies!

Seeing our heads probably wouldn’t help much lol. To paraphrase Tolstoy, Straight-haired heads are alike, but each curly head is curly in its own way. Trial and error is the only way to go with curly hair, but hopefully you’ve got some new tricks to try. Good luck!

I got curly hair from chemo. it was supposed to go back but hasnt yet after 3 years. I had a lot of learning to do. I used moroccan oil for a while, now I use an aveda product. like it because it is plant based. I love te picsyou have posted, something to ponder.

That haircut is adorable! I also have curly – historically more wavy than curly but, as I’ve gotten older, more curly but mine is shoulder length and is thicker than the model in the photo. A couple suggestions…not sure where you live but there’s a salon in NYC called Devachan [Salon | Devachan Salon](http://www.devachansalon.com/) where they specialize in curly hair–cuts, styling, teaching people to style their hair, etc. Just checked their website and they now have one in Culver City (LA area) too so, if either is anywhere near you, I’d go to an expert.

I went with a friend years ago and it was a whole experience and–my friend still wears her hair curly…I lasted about a month and, since then have gone back to blow drying my hair straight and have also had brazillian straightening. It doesn’t sound like you’re considering trying to go straight but, just in case, even if you don’t want to have a brazillian, the right blowdryer and round brush can take you very, very far. My salon offers a ‘blowdrying bootcamp’ which was really helpful too. I’d really recommend finding a curly hair expert and both getting the right cut and advice about how to style it from that person. Good luck!

That’s a good idea, Collage1! I would never have thought of that. I’m in MA but I wonder if there is anywhere on Newbury St. in Boston. I will check it out. I love my hairdresser (have been going to her her for 38 years!!!) but getting an outside opinion wouldn’t hurt.

Yesterday I tried the Garnier curling Mousse because I couldn’t find the John Frieda one that I have been using. John Frieda wins that competition for sure.

I’ve been working on removing frizz from by wavy/curly hair (with some success)

Dont roughly towel dry hair. Gently squeeze water out. Let air dry or use diffuser. Fingers are great rather than a brush.

Keep using conditioner. I user conditioner in shower and again a leave in conditioner.

Silk pillowcase. This was recommended by my hair dresser and it seems to greatly cut down on frizz the next day

Wow! So much hair wisdom here! Thanks, Python!

Another thought…so many posters are mentioning air drying their hair…if I air dry my hair, it gets frizzy, unmanagable and, well, unattractive! I comb mine out, wrap it in a towel and then wait no more than 10-15 minutes to blow dry/style it and then I have much more control.

Also, EPTR, you might want to call the NYC salon and see if they have any recommendations in for a stylist in your area. When my friend and I went to Divashan way back when, my friend asked about ongoing care (we were visiting NYC), she was given the name of a stylist in her hometown and she still goes to that person so maybe there’s someone near you that specializes in curly hair.

The Brazilian reference makes me think of the waxing.

I know this thread is about hair. I have the absolute opposite hair thin and straight. But I did try short styles and read about them a while back. I noticed that short styles are really cute with nice eye makeup and earrings. I just thought I would mention that adding or changing that part sometimes enhances whatever short style you go with.

Does anyone else have any products/suggestions for combatting frizz? My hairstylist recommended drying hair while it is pretty wet (apparently it will stretch straighter then?) and then using styling tools. I just HATE the frizz that comes with aging hair–I want my ends to look blunt cut just by drying, not by using a straightener, further damaging my old hair!

In the past I used to wash my hair, condition it and then give it a final rinse with cold water. That is supposed to close the cuticle of the hair shaft and make it smoother. It’s not a very comfortable way to wake up though! :)

SJTH, yes, I find drying my hair while it’s still wet definitely helps with frizz. I use a frizz-ease cream before drying but, honestly, if it helps, I’m not sure. I use it mostly to protect my hair from the incredibly hot air coming out of my dryer. This may not be worth saying but definitely holding the dryer down helps with frizz–pointing the air up definitely results in more frizz!

I actually notice a difference when I use an ionic hair dryer & brush.

Sometimes I use this, but H likes my hair wavy.

I had a great hair day today! I think I"m getting the hang of this. I wash it, wring it dry gently with my hands, apply John Frieda Mousse for revitalizing curls. Then I part it a little, apply Garnier cream gel for curls and work that in all over. I scrunch in the curls with my fingers and let it air dry for a bit. Every fifteen minutes or so, I scrunch again. Today I bought hairspray for frizzy hair and sprayed that on my fingers and used it to arrange the curls and bangs where I wanted them. It’s just the look I was after! Hope it works everyday. Thanks, everyone for the help. It’s fun to have a new look after 35 years! Seriously…it’s been that long!

I would love to have thick wavy hair. Some people pay tons of money for that.

You’re a pro already, EPTR!

Well, we’ll see if it works on a daily basis!

Busdriver, I have always felt lucky to have good hair. It makes up a little for the cankles and double chin! Lol. I’m sure you have some wonderful attributes that I would covet.
