Help me? :(

I’ll try to keep this as short as possible, I’m currently attending a community college in California (College of the Desert), just finishing my first semester with I’m assuming Straight A’s, though the coursework wasn’t hard at all. The most challenging thing was English 1A, which was a cakewalk for me, honestly. I’d like to transfer out to a UC/CSU. My problem is this: I have no interests or desires to do necessarily anything, though I do have extreme motivation to get into a CSU/UC school. Mostly aiming toward UC right now, though. Things I do like are as listed below:

Strong writing skills

Pretty articulate. Since I’m African-American, I’ve been called an oreo because of it -_- (Black on the outside, but white on the inside baby!)

I have a pretty rapid fire mind which definitely shows in writing.

I like being creative, but I have no artistic talents.

My personality is weird… since I graduated High School, I’ve become very introverted but when I was in High School I was extremely extroverted. I’d prefer a career where I can be extroverted, because I’m happiest when I am… yet I still like the introversion a bit. I don’t know that this matters, but just throwing it out there.

Not sure if I like math. Recently, on my own (thanks to KhanAcademy.org) I’ve been understanding some small things much better. I don’t hate Math as much as I did in High School though. One of my biggest goals is to GET BETTER AT MATH! I really want to excel in Mathematics… regardless of what my major is. It’s my only detriment. I’d be a pretty damn good student if I could conquer Math. Everything else comes easy to me (With exception to Chemistry.)

I like Politics and current events, I have CNN on right now! Haha

I always wanted to work in an office in a big city, you know, the suit and tie deal that has room for advancement. But something solid that maybe I could do on my own if I were laid off, or fired… I don’t know.

I don’t know. Any majors you guys think I should take a looking to? It would be greatly appreciated. I would see my Advisor, but I just don’t feel there’s anything I can talk to her about if I don’t have a roadmap of where I want to go :.

Eh, I failed at keeping this short.

public relations, human resources- both might work for you.

If you want to do something more technical, consider accounting. The math is repeatitive and structured.

I think that while you’re still at this community college, you should make a beeline to the career counseling office. They have people there whose job it is to help students identify their strengths and match them to majors and careers. The office at my local community college is pretty good.

^^^very good advice

Love the quick response, guys. Vlines, your suggestions are great as I’ve reviewed those three as potential majors/careers, my favorite ended up being Accounting after I watched a few tutorials on Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting.

I fear my self doubt drags me down from pursuing that though, I don’t know why. I feel like much of the deciding factor of your success in the field revolves around whether you get into a Big 4 firm or not. If it’s within your knowledge, what school would you suggest as best for Accounting? I had thoughts on CSU Fullerton, but I’m not entirely sure.

@Sikorsky, very good advice. Thank you, I’m definitely going to look into that.

those questions I can’t help you with, sorry. Try going to some of those forums here on CC and ask that question.

Yes, I just saw that there is an Business/Accounting majors forum, haha. Thanks again!

check this out too…
[Be an Actuary](http://beanactuary.org/)
not for me, but might be for you.

Your self doubt comes from your math anxiety. Total guess on my part, but a high probablility. I am NOT a math person, but I was GREAT at statistics. Takes more of a creative mind than a concrete one (if you know what I mean). Being able to visuailze things helps tremendously. That is why actuary might be a fit for you. something to look at at least!

That’s one I haven’t seeked out, nice. Thank you, I will look up some information on it. You’re absolutely right, it does stem from my math anxiety - which is why I just need to overcome that, and become the best I can be at it because then, the sky would be the limit I feel.

Thanks again!
