<p>So im just very curious to know what you think about my chances of acceptance into NYU </p>
<p>so my cummulative GPA at this point, i thinkkkk havent quite calculated the final result yet but its around a 3.75 (weighted) im only a junior so i still have another few months to go before my final GPA is set in stone. i got an 1880 on my SAT and a 27 on my first ACT bt didnt study and i willllll retake, im retaking my SAT once more also and hoping to get at least a 40 point increase. </p>
<p>i volunteer at a nursing home often with a friend of mine.
i have a full time job as a lifeguard and i teach swim lessons every week to about 20 kids!
im actively involved with this club called REBEL that basically advocate against tobacco use.
im a staff writer for my schools newspaer and last year i was the business editor.
i also have been raising money for this organization called pennies for peace which collects money to build schools in the middle east.</p>
<p>alsooooo i swim allthe time not just because its a hobby but because i belong to a team with my work. we dont compete its just a training team, also through my work i help teach CPR and lifeguard courses</p>
<p>ummm im going this summer to israel to work and volunterr on a Kibbutz </p>
<p>SO YEAH. this is m dream school and im BEYOND curious to know what people think about my chances!</p>
<p>I think for anyone to help, you’ll need to first say what school you’re applying to. Other things that help people help you include rigor of course work and location (NYU recieve tons of apps from students in the tristate area so it is a factor).</p>
<p>yeahh… im from NJ!, ive taken basically all accelerated or honors courses and im taking aboutttt 6 AP classes between junior and senior year… these include acc. physics and AP calc ummm AP english AP European History AP French idk a few others you get the idae i guess and im not sure which school im applying to!! pretty much either college of arts and sciences or the Gallatin school of individual study just because im confused.</p>
<p>Your GPA is about the same as mine was, Your SAT score is a little higher and my ACT was a 28. I dont think people can really give you a good idea of what your chances are because the essay and responses to the supplement on common app seem to be a pretty decent factor in addition to everything in high school.</p>
<p>Look into the Liberal Studies Program, which is what I’m in now. You cant apply directly to it, but if you get rejected for CAS or Gallatin you may still have a chance at getting into LSP (they consider you for it if they reject you from the school you apply to).</p>
<p>Its a little complicated to explain all the details of LSP, so I wont unless you have any questions/are interested in it.</p>
<p>what does “confused” mean? gallatin is for students who know exactly what they want to study and want to take the initiative to form their own major. If you’re more interested in having a liberal arts education then CAS seems like a suitable option.</p>
<p>If you don’t know what you want to study, don’t apply to Gallatin. Half of the battle is proving to the ad com that you can create a major and are passionate about it.</p>
<p>I’m from NY, a little upstate though, so not in Manhattan. I’ll be going to NYU this fall for my first year (class of 2014). I already picked my classes for first semester, although I may have to make one change if I get a high enough score on my AP Bio test (I need a 4 or 5 to get out of the two required levels of science classes, one of which I signed up for just in case). If I score a 4 or 5 I will be taking entry level Italian, because language is the only CAS requirment not completed when your in LSP (unless of course you take it as your elective which I plan on doing). You may also have to take a math junior year at CAS if your major requires it. </p>
<p>I didnt know anything about LSP when I first got the letter, and it really threw my plans off. I got into Fordham as an early action applicant and firgured I would go there unless I got into NYU, but when I got into LSP I almost picked Fordham over NYU simply because I was uninformed. It was kind of hard to drag information out of the people at NYU when I was there to visit, no one seemed to give me direct answers about the program, but now that I have signed up for classes and filled out all my dorm info and such, I know I made the right choice. This program gets you where you need to be in terms of core classes (or “MAP” as NYU calls it) and even allows you more time abroad, which I love. Its basically a way for NYU to keep their admissions low (making them more competative) but at the same time bring in more students (and more money, since tuition is the same at CAS and in LSP).</p>
