So I come from a big family with tones of brothers and sisters and my youngest brother who is only 2 years younger than me, is starting college at a state school.

And he is registering for his classes and there appears to be a problem.

He wants to take Calc and he should since he already done Stat and Pre-cal in HS. But sadly, he never signed up for the SAT II math so the college he is attending simply refuses to allow him to take Calc. He took the math dignostic test online provided by the university and he aced that and according to the online guide made up by the university, he should be placed in a Calc class.

However, the whole issue lies around that he didnt take the SAT II math or AP Calc in HS. So the alternatives he has is to take pre-cal or stat over again his freshman year, something he obviously dont want to do.

So my mom got a little antsy and we were all wondering what he should do? He is pretty stubborn so I think he signed up for Calc anyway even though he doesnt meet the school's requirements.

So I guess my question is that if he signs up for calc and get that, can the math dept just drop his class randomly when they discover he doesn't have the SAT II requirements? I mean he is a bright kid so I wouldnt think that he would fail or anything.

He did email the dept chair and she sort of never responded....
