Help Narrow Down My Options?

Currently a junior. I need to start visiting colleges, and I have way too many in mind. I’m a VA resident and I can probably pay around $25,000 a year, but I am looking at scholarships. I would like to cut my list from 10 to 5-6.

Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Asian
Desired Major: Information Systems or Accounting

GPA: (will probably go down after junior year, sadly)
Cumulative UW: 3.8
Cumulative W: 4.2

Freshman: 4 Honors Classes (Biology, WH1, English 9, and Algebra 2), 5 A’s and 2 A-'s (in Biology and Algebra 2)

Sophomore: 4 Honors Classes (Chemistry, WH2, English 10, and Pre-Calc/Trig), 3 A’s, 3 A-'s (in WH2, English 10, and math), and one B+ (Chemistry)

Junior (So Far, 1st semester): 1 Honors (Physics), 2 AP’s (AP Lang and AP Calculus BC), 5 A’s, 1 A- (AP Lang), and 1 C (AP Calculus BC)

Senior Classes (what I plan to take, as of now):
AP Stats, AP Lit, AP French, AP Physics B, Government (6th class is non-academic [orchestra] and 7th is study hall)

I know my Calculus grade is awful…

SAT’s:
Took them for the first time in December, got an 1880 (680 W 600 CR 600 M)
Planning to take them again in June, aiming for a 2000+, but we’ll see…I’m a really bad test taker.
Planning on taking three SAT II’s (Math II, Physics, and Literature or French)

EC’s
-Music (8 years violin and 9 years piano)
-French Club (9th/10th)
-French Honor Society (9th/10th/11th)
-Asian American Students Association (11th)
-Environmental Club (11th; it was created just this year)
-Less than 50 hours of volunteer work currently.
-I’m thinking of getting a job this summer. If not, I’ll just continue my volunteer work and try to get 100+ hours.

College Options:
NVCC
Virginia Commonwealth University
James Madison University
George Mason University
Howard University
Virginia Tech
American University
George Washington University
College of William and Mary
University of Virginia

Do I even have a chance at anywhere other than NVCC? MY EC’s, SAT, GPA aren’t really that stellar…and my Calc grade will stand out horribly.

Shameless bump…

You’ll at least get into Howard. Check the Common Data Set (section C) for each school to see how your stats match up.

Okay, thank you, Erin’s Dad, for the advice.

Erin’s dad is right you need to check your stats against these schools. Also check out naviance if your school uses it. I think you will be surprised. Also if you want scholarships from va public schools look to the less competitive schools (CNU, ODU, Radford or Longwood).
