Help. Need advice on obtaining a higher SAT score

Hello fellow forum readers!

I need some advice. I recently took the October SAT and did more poorly than I expected.

M 720
CR 680
W 540

I intend to go into natural science in college so hopefully the writing score won’t hurt me too much, however I want a better composite score than an 1940. I tried to prepare for the grammatical analysis by working problems in the writing section. I did not prepare at all for math and did very little to prepare for CR. I think I can bolster my CR by studying vocabulary, but I was wondering if anybody could offer advice on improving writing. Does anybody have experience with a score like this one, which clearly shows aptitude in some areas and lack of abilities in others, and getting into a good school? Thanks!

For me, what helped me most on writing was simply reviewing commonly-tested grammatical rules (most of which I already knew) so I could look out for those on the actual test. I was able to raise my writing score from ~540 to around 650 within a week (not exaggerating!), without even working on the essay.
