Help: Need pre-theater dinner in NYC for this weekend

My daughters spring breaks overlap this weekend so we are going to see Evita in NYC on Saturday. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza Times Square (thru pricleine), but need any suggestions for dinner before the show (show is at 8pm). I just relaized this is St Patrick’s day so I am hoping we can still get reservations at someplace decent. Any suggestions for a good dinner would be greatly appreciated.

Glass House Tavern on W 47th…and I think they have pre-theater

Nizza on 9th and 45th…Italian bistro-pizzas, pastas…

Just a couple of ideas…I’ll come back with more later when I look at my recent receipts

Oh yea, etcetera…W 44th…very good

Trattoria Colori…right next door to Glass House Tavern on W47 th…excellent Italian

We like Ma Peche at 15 W 56th St.

Becco. W 46th St. Love the Sinfonia di Paste. $22.95 for Caesar salad and all you can eat of 3 different pastas. (Lunch price is $17.95) Would suggest calling for a table because the online reservation link usually says no reservations are available.

This is one of Lidia Bastianich’s restaurants. Food was excellent!

We love Carmines. Family style. Expect a wait. We usually put our name in expecting an hour or more wait and then walk around a bit and come back. Food is always good.

Agree with this one. Have been there a bunch of times (with friends some from CC) and also with others. Have recommended it numerous times. Everyone has liked it. Prices are reasonable for NYC, we thought.

This thread was very timely. I was beginning to think that most of the better reviewed restaurants in NYC were going to cost $300 to $400 (or more) for my wife and me who will be seeing a broadway show on Friday 3/16. NYC prices make Chez Panisse in Berkeley look like a bargain (were from CA).

I just booked a reservation at Trattoria Trecolori… thanks rodney and thumper1.

I’ve had lunch at Becco also…excellent but you have to book FAR in advance. And if you go there for lunch…do NOT do what we did…and go out to dinner!!

my favorite website to plan meals and check menus is:

[New York City Restaurants, New York City Menus, Ratings, Reviews, NYC Restaurants Guide](http://www.menupages.com)

You can sort by cuisine, location & cost. Based on my experience, the reviews are generally in-line from a theme perspective - portions, service, etc.

While it’s not in the Theater distict, my favorite NYC restaurant is Avra (48th & 3rd). Fresh seafood with Greek flair.

PS - except for the Irish pubs filled with drunks, St Pat Day is not a huge challenge for reservations in NYC.

Just make sure you stay west of Fifth Avenue in the afternoon because of the parade. And also be alert for disorderly drunks all over midtown.

jshain:
[Parking Search | Find Discount, Daily / Monthly Parking in NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, DC and Nationwide > Central Parking](http://www.centralparking.com) for discounted parking tickets as well…

I like the lots west of 8th; easier exit after the shows…

just realized you are from Ca (assume you arent driving haha) but for the rest on here…

rhy - Hubby and I spent several days (over Christmas) in 2010 seeing Broadway plays and basically just enjoying New York. We had several pre-show meals, but the best one by far was at the West Bank Cafe. Not far from all of the shows and just an AMAZING meal.

Recommend HIGHLY! :)

Marseille on 9th Avenue at 44th Street, Pigalle on 8th Avenue and 48th Street, Blue Fin on Broadway at 50th Street… Cafe Un Deux Trois on 44th between B’way and 6th… had pre-theatre dinner at Marseille last week before seeing Death of A Salesman… dinner was lovely and the show was outstanding…

We really like Joe Allen’s on 46 th St and Hurley’s on 48th street. Food is excellent and always get a broadway star citing.

Thank y ou all for the recommendations. Now I just have to find one of them that has reservations available. I checked a couple and the best I could do so far was 3:30, a bit early for me, but we may just skip lunch.

How about a snack before from a food cart and an after theater dinner? I third Becco and love it’s post theater energy. Really good food too.

Echo some of the posts above- Becco’s is the best place on restaurant row and is reasonably priced (try their daily three pasta special) and who knows you might catch a glimpse of Lidia.

Isn’t the OP going to NYC this weekend? When we went to Becco, we had to make our reservations FAR in advance.

Bond 45 on 45th street is really good, particularly if you’re vegetarian.

I checked Beco first, but there is nothing available. We don’t go to NYC very often (too expensive for a family of 4), but I will keep it in mind for the next time.
