Help needed! Do I screw something up?

Hey guys, I am an international student currently double-major in Computer Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. I am trying to apply UCB for the Fall semester, and since I do not need to submit any additional material at UC application, then I apply UCLA at the same time. However, I got a reject from UCLA just few days ago.

I have a 3.95/4.00 GPA, and several work experience and volunteer work. I am kinda confused whether I screw something up during the application procedure so that I am not accepted by UCLA. Well, how about my chance to get into UCB?

Thank you guys!

@userealname, competition for OOS applicants, such as yourself, is EXTREMELY competitive, and you can be rejected even if you have a 4.0. in your case, with UCLA and Cal, the rest of your application is very important; they simply can’t take every perfect candidate with ECs and volunteer work, unfortunately :/

HOWEVER, we can’t speculate about the reason you were rejected, because we simply don’t know. it could have been something as simple as failing to complete a certain prereq or meet a minimum requirement. call first thing tomorrow morning and they should be able to give you a definitive reason.

good luck :)

@justinetruant, thanks a lot for replying! So we can call them to ask the specific reason why I am rejected?

Yes, I agree with justine.

Out of state applicants are given the least priority for admissions. Many 4.0 students with stellar EC’s and personal statements still get rejected.

You can call and ask them personally for the reason why you were rejected, but tomorrow would probably be jam packed of people on the phone asking the same question as you :P

@userealname, yeah, they’re usually very good about that (just be extremely polite because they’re going to get thousands of calls tomorrow morning about the same thing!)

@iMunster,@justinetruant

Yeah, got u! I will try to call tomorrow. Thank a lot!
