Hello,

I am a rising senior and looking to apply to Harvard. In my junior year, I took the following classes:

Art 1
German 2
AP World History
AP U.S. History
AP Physics C
AP Calculus BC
AP Lang

For my senior year, I have registered for:

Multivariable/Matrix Algebra
AP Biology
AP Comparative Gov.
AP Lit
AP Studio Art
German 3
Leadership class

I have already gotten all the necessary high school science and math credits, and I honestly do not really feel like doing AP Biology, even though I am looking to go to a medical school. I checked with a nearby community college to see if I can take a different science class there instead of taking AP Bio at my school.

I was told by my counselor that I can drop up to 3 classes in my senior year so that I can have the time to take a course at college in lieu of taking AP Bio. But she advised me to check if the colleges I will be applying to have a certain preference for curriculum, as some colleges “may prefer to see that you’ve taken classes available to secondary schools.”

I want to know if taking a course at a community college instead of AP Bio (and possibly some other elective class) can hurt my chances at Harvard. It’s not that I believe this option will help me in my admissions process. I simply find the particular college course much more interesting than AP Bio. And by the way, is having a transcript with weak foreign language a gaping hole in my application? (I suppose it can’t be good, but I hope it isn’t too detrimental)

Thank you greatly for your time.
