Help needed to determine major

I do not know which one is a better major, Education or Library Science&Information. I have great interests in both, and can not make up my mind. Could you guys be generous to share your opinions with me, and please specify in terms of jobs. You know, economy is declining, and I have to take family into account first rather than personal fondness.
In addition, if I fail to get into UC, which CSU is more reputable and has good program to offer.

Education, my aunty is a teacher. The entering salary is not that much but it’s way more fun than library science. you do need to pass the standardize test in order to be a teacher.

In my opinion, sign up as an undeclared major. THen take courses in both and see which would you have more fun in. Yes fun may sound bad, but you dont want to spend the rest of your life studying a BORING topic. Believe it or not , you will spend over 100,000 hours on your career in the future. So take that into consideration. Also, Cal Poly, or San jose state are reputable CSU’s, but you can always try transfering into a UC w/ TAG (Transfer admission guarantee).

dont go to a CSU
go to a CC and xfer
I made that mistake and now im packin classes at a CC!

Thank you for the suggestions, and definitely Library Scrience is boring, burying in piles of books or sort of. But man, life is rough. looking at the economy, who knows what would take place in the future. I am an immigrant, not only liable for my wife after marriage, and also have to take care of parents( if includes bridal parents that will be 4). It is my culture, and picturing what they’ve done in the past, it is my resposibility to do so. I never can assume how much my girlfriend can make. Therefore, the best and most practical way is to assure a steady family. Self-insterest? It does not work for me, at least in current situation. Maybe when I am capable of losing 50% of my saving in the bank crisis, and then I might sit down and consider what i want to do. Anyway, thank you so much for your response.
Xcaliberse: Cal Poly is good one, but it focuses on science more than literal arts, I think.
Kmzizzle: Sorry for confussing you, I forgot to mention that I am a CC student and plan to transfer next year. CSUs are just backup that keep me on the right track.

o ok, so i guess ur a sophmore transferring for junior status

Aim high then! try to get in UC’s; trust me it will be worth it

If liberal arts is boring, I would definitely go for economics if you have a greater interest on it. Yes nobody knows what will happen to the economy. BUt life is full of risks. And plus, econ is a highly selective major. You should think through this. It is a big decision to make.

i heard csu fullerton has a good teaching program

If you are considering the future and I am certainly not an expert on this, but many librarians may begin to get laid off as a result of the computer age. Many people are not going to the local libraries as they once were and with computers doing much of the work that librarians used to do there is not much need to hire as many librarians. There will of course be a need for a librarian but really how many library’s are hiring? Teachers are always in high demand and I think the starting salary would be about the same and you would be looking at a much more secure future.

Also, if I’m not mistaken, becoming a librarian requires a master’s degree while teaching simply (or not so simply) requires post-grad certification (although this can be quite time-consuming including the internship).

Also, CAL has a great minor in Education if you are considering going here. They have a great graduate division in Education which makes its undergraduate minor program one of the greatest. Its definatelty worth considering…
