Ok here goes. I am going to a semi formal event tomorrow night and I bought a beautiful pink satin dressmaker’s style suit. I took it to the dry cleaners to have it pressed. Just picked it up - looked great. When I got it home I looked at it more carefully and there is an oily/greasey stain on the sleeve. I KNOW it was not there when I bought it! I called the cleaners as soon as I saw it and of course there is no one there that can help me they won’t be back untill Monday. ANY IDEAS?

I did find by reading online there is a product(s) for removal of stains on satin. I am going to go to the fabric store and hopefully they will have something. I of course will try it on a hidden location first.

Good luck getting it out. Try another dry cleaner who is open on Saturdays. And, if all else fails, consider pinning a gaudy fabric flower pin to the spot – you’ll look quite hip by having a pin in a surprise location. (I"m hoping it’s down near the cuff. That would look interesting. If it’s on the bicep, that might look – goofy.)

VeryHappy lol! I did go to the fabric store, not much help there. I did read about a product called Goddards which is supposed to remove stains from delicate fabrics and not leave a ring. So out I go again to try to find it!

If nothing works, do what I do when I’m in a jam like that. If someone points it out to me, I gasp, act shocked and proclaim it was not there when I put the outfit on.

It’s silly, but it have given me the confidence to go out in the imperfect outfit when the only other option was showing up in sweats!

I’m back with no luck in finding a product, oh well! Very happy, thanks for giving this disaster a lighter side! Pug I think you are definitely on to something, if all else fails I will probably try your method. Thanks everybody.

Good news on the suit front! I started calling around to some dry cleaners, most were closed. Finally one answered he was the owner and was staying late to do some maintenance. It’s one of the cleaners where they do the work there. He will have it ready for me by 10 AM! Yay!

For future reference, you can also buy a little can of AFTA dry cleaning fluid to keep on hand for trouble spots. I haven’t tried it on clothes, but it worked very well on a magic marker spot on my car seat (which is probably made of nylon). You can get it a most dimes stores or supermarkets.

Also, (while not for a satin suit, of course) Dawn dishwashing soap is a really good pre-treatment for greasy spots.

Anyway, glad the crisis has been avoided! Enjoy your event!
