Help on college selection: NYU Stern vs Princeton

I am on a hard postion to choose between NYU Stern and Princeton Univesity. Interest in finance and would like to work in investment companies. I do not need to worry about tuition and expense. I like NYU’s location and job placement. NYU has business school and finance major for undergraduate. I also like Princeton’s undergraduate focus education, prestigious, and courses are taught by professors (not graduate students).
Please let me know what you think!

I think it sounds like you want NYU.

NYU will be focused on you and it’s prestigious for finance.

You can end up in NY from either - but based on what you wrote, your reasons for Princeton don’t seem to match what you truly want (based on your words).

Congrats on your acceptances.

Have you been admitted to both? Are you an International?

I’ll ask as well, have you been admitted to both of these schools?

So, basically, you think you want Princeton for the education and prestige, and Stern for the job placements.
Except Stern is plenty prestigious (and prestige really shouldn’t matter… though I understand it does for your chosen field) and Princeton isn’t lacking in terms of placement.
Go re visit each  and follow your sense of “home”. The environment and vibe are different enough that one should appeal more than the other.

Yes. i got in both.
I also like Princeton’s small size and traditional campus experience.

What do you want to study? What would you major in at each school? Sounds like finance at Stern? What about Princeton?

Economics

Obviously you can achieve your goal from either school. I would pick based on what you most want to study…studying economics is not like studying finance. Have you taken AP Econ? Looked in depth at the major requirements, class syllabi, etc?

Nothing wrong with going with what vibe and location/setting you would prefer…these schools are quite different. Good luck.

My understanding is Princeton Econ really does not do much in Finance. Conversely, NYU arguably has one of the top two Finance undergrad programs, along with Wharton. The internal competition is tough, but those two programs then tend to place the most graduates in the most competitive investment firms.

So maybe I am wrong, but it kinda feels like you are kinda trying to talk yourself into Princeton instead because it is more “prestigious”. I would not choose it for that reason, because I think that really means nothing to anyone who matters.

Now, I think if you would rather get a broader education in Economics and liberal arts in general as an undergrad, rather than focus specifically on Finance and Business, you could reasonably choose Princeton. That’s the spirit that Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and so on all take, and of course they place well in investment firms too.

But it doesn’t sound to me like you really want that, it sounds to me like you would rather be more focused at this point. If that is right, then you really can’t do better than NYU for that purpose (at most you can tie with Wharton).

Still wondering if you are an international.

How about putting “career” aside and thinking about where you will be happiest the next 4 years? Quality of life? Social aspects? Learning econ/finance, but perhaps some other area(s) as well (hint: Princeton).

Career-wise - both will get you EXACTLY where you want to go in 4 years.

Good luck!
