I make just barely over 100K a year, and my son’s college (2007) will cost 50K a year, and I have twin girls going to college in two years. Still FAFSA only gave me 3.5K in LOANS , not even grants.
Is it even POSSIBLE to have my three kids at 50K a year schools, Or should I just tell them that they better look at a community college?
Thanks

how large are your assets? EFC depends on that too.

You will qualify for more aid when you have 3 kids in college at once – however, FAFSA doesn’t give you grants in any case – colleges do. You didn’t say what your FAFSA EFC is, so I don’t know whether your problem is that you don’t qualify for much aid or that your son’s college is not doing a good job of meeting need. There certainly are a lot of alternatives other than community college – public 4-year-universities, private colleges offering merit aid – and, if the kids do qualify for substantial aid when you have the twins in college at the same time as your son, making sure that they target colleges that promise to meet full need. (The parent contribution portion of the EFC will be 1/3 of what it is now during the years that you have 3 in college – so if your EFC is $45K, it will probably be $15K for each kid when the twins are freshmen).
