Help, Help ,Hi, Anyone familiar with the Math League contest ? I just wondering if participating or maybe getting some awards could help my University Admission . I m a International student and there’s a agent promoted this contest in our school and I was selected for the first round. I was noticed that there’s be an interview for the second round selection and I have to pay $6000 for a 2 weeks preparation program before taking the actual test. I just wondering if this is worthy ?
Run away! That $6,000 price sounds VERY insane – I think this agent is running a scam. The contest seems legitimate from my google searches . The $6,000 charge money for a preparation course sounds ludicrous. Even if you were to do well, it’s no different than other Math clubs and contests.
Rule of thumb: if you have to pay thousands of dollars, the only person benefiting is the person collecting the money.
RUN AWAY FROM THIS AGENT
Math League? Good extracurricular for college apps.
Paying to prepare for Math League? No good…don’t do it. They are just trying to make money off of you.
Is this ARML (which has international teams participating)?
ARML is a legitimate contest, but I would not pay $6000 for a 2-week preparation program, even if the person won ARML individual or won an IMO medal or something. There are lots of free or inexpensive preparation resources out there, including books full of past problems.
$6,000???
Sounds like one of those scams to me. Even if the competition may be legit, the promoter is not. As others have said, RUN.
thanks so true !!
Thanks!
