Help: PhD program (UNISA or Exeter ?)

I am desperate to further my studies at the PhD level because my eventual goal is to work in the US. My question is if anyone can tell me more about the PhD program at the University of South Africa (Communications) versus the University of Exeter (Film Studies). Specifically, I am worried about the reputation and quality of UNISA because it seems almost too good to be true (short program and low cost). I am more or less interested in teaching film at the college level so I really want to make sure that I select the best school possible. Thanks and I eagerly await your replies…

My recommendations:

 1. Look up the faculty of the UNISA program and then look up their publications. Are they publishing in the major venues in your field (or publishing books with reputable publishers if that’s what comm/film people do)?
2. Ask professors from your undergraduate and master’s programs what their thoughts are about that program; they probably know better than most here.
 3. Will the short program allow you to do the kind of research that will be required to make you competitive in the American job market?

Good luck!

thanks … does anyone have any experience dealing with either the University of South Africa or University of Exeter ??
