Hey, sorry if this is the wrong section. I was looking for some opinions on the schools that I have been accepted to. I hope to be able to add more when April rolls around. Some information about me…
I am an undocumented Mexican student with a 4.62 WGPA, 3.93 UWGPA, 29 composite ACT, 720 Math, 20 Reading, 590 Writing on SAT. I am an officer for the National Technical Honor Society, an Ambassador for the National Society of High School Scholars, and a member of the National Honor Society. I wrestled for 2 years before getting injured and have played with the orchestra Freshman through Junior year.I am looking into a political science major and would like a school with a strong program. Small class size is an absolute must and the campus must have an inviting vibe. I want to go to a social school, although I am not necessarily looking for parties. I want the best education that I can get. Cost is not a determining factor because I am going on a private scholarship. Distance is not a determining factor either. I would like to leave Charlotte but would not mind staying if it means a better education.
I have currently been accepted to:
Wofford College
Queen’s University of Charlotte
High Point University
Belmont Abbey
Wingate University
I am awaiting decisions from:
Yale
Davidson
Washington and Lee
Emory
Rice
Dartmouth
Columbia
Harvard
Furman
Wake Forest
Vanderbilt
Brown
University of Pennsylvania
I know I am currently waiting a slew of reaches. I would gladly accept any admissions chances from your own experience.
Thank you for your time and your opinions
For chances you should make a separate post in the chances forum. What kind of info do you want to know about your colleges? My first question for you is if you ran the Net Price Calculator for all of them. Can your family afford them?
The chances are not too important since I already sent my applications. I was just wondering. Thank you though. As for the affordability, I have a full ride to all 5 schools that I have been accepted to
The best of the 5 that admitted you is Wofford. Congratulations on the full ride!
You should hear soon from the others - hopefully one will admit you!
I was leaning towards wofford too. The study abroad program is what truly catches my attention. Thank you
I am waiting to hear from Davidson College next Tuesday. That is my number one choice for in-state
Davidson is the entire South’s best liberal arts college, like Pomona and Scripps for the West or Carleton and Grinnell for the Midwest. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you get in, it’s a fabulous place!
And if you don’t… you have a free ride at an excellent college. Congratulations on designing your college list so well.
Of the ones accepted to Wofford will give you a great education and experience. Also great Alumni network. Nephew loved his time there.
@MYOS1634 would you say that Davidson would be better than Emory? Emory seems pretty well regarded as well. I just don’t know which I would pick out of those two if I were able to pick.
As for right now, I have been leaning towards High Point and Wofford. More towards Wofford.
@scmom12 what did your nephew study? Did he study abroad? I hear that’s the main attraction for the school.
Emory is a large university, not a LAC. Emory is very prestigious, but it’s not focused on undergraduate education. What you want from your education will drive this choice for you - go visit after admission. But of course the first criterion would likely be financial aid.
High Point is frowned on in many circles for being a country club for rich kids who couldn’t make it into other, more academically-focused schools. If that’s what you want, no problem, but in NC there are LOTS of colleges with better academics. Sure, not as much for luxury surroundings so it’s up to you what you go to college for.
I have heard that of High Point. I’ve heard it is more partying than studying. As for Emory, is it better as a grad school? Would you say the Ivy’s excluding Dartmouth to be like that too?
