I am a high school junior and a teacher nominated me for an award yesterday. I have been given the task of writing a short self bio. I’m stumped. Where do I begin? What do I say? Where can I find some examples? I appreciate any help you can provide.

It’s due today by 2pm, so I don’t have much time.

John Junior, born in 1995, has lived in Small Town, NJ since 2004 when his family relocated from Big City, PA. He has played basketball for the school since he was a freshman, and was part of the 2012 team that made it to the State semi-finals. He enjoys history, volunteering at his church, watching documentaries, and the high light of his junior year was (the class you got the award in). His future plans include majoring in business and continuing his commitment to community service.

Would something like this work? Obviously make it your own but I think this is what people mean when they say “short bio”.

Good luck. And congrats on the award!

Thank you so much! This helps so much.

Writing about oneself can be quite difficult. As silly as that may seem. I tend to be a bit shy and laid back. This feels like bragging, which I hate!

Think of it as telling people something about yourself if they have no idea who you are. Or think of it as the intro that the teacher reads out loud as you walk across the stage to accept the award. It doesn’t have to be bragging (this is probably moot if you turned it in already).
