HELP PLEASE!!!! I got into UNR but I'm having second thoughts about going.

I’m majoring in accounting. One big 4 firm recruits somewhat at unr and some smaller firms do as well, but I want to make sure I have a good chance at getting a job right out of college. Is the University of Nevada Reno recruited more heavily than their website suggests? I have .5 credits shy of 30 and I have a 3.81 gpa from a Northern California cc. All my credits are transferable. After this semester I’ll have 45.5. I’m rethinking going to unr and maybe thinking I should just wait and go to a csu or uc. What are my chances of going to a school like UC Berkeley or UCSD where the big 4 recruiter more heavily? I took a couple light semesters so I’m about 15 credits behind because this will be my 4th semester once I’m done this spring. I know a lot of California schools only accept students during the fall and you have to apply at the end of the previous fall so I don’t really want to be here another year because then I’ll have been in school for over 6 years by the time I graduate but if it will make a huge impact on my career I might have to. Are there any other good schools that the big 4 recruit at under the WUE tuition agreement in the west that will accept me for this coming fall without 2 years of a language? I don’t have 2 years of a language because I was mostly focused on unr. I never took the sat or act in high school and I didn’t do the best in high school either. Thank you for your help.

UNR is a decent school - Tour the campus if you haven’t. Lots of CA transplants. I’ve heard mixed reports on WUE at for CA residents at UNR - be sure to check it out. You’ll get a solid accounting education- and you get to go now.

Without your GPA, i can’t say what your chances of getting into UCB or UCSD. Since neither participates in TAG, it is tough to gauge what GPA you’d need - perhaps a 3.6+.

Also note - not all UCs offer undergrad accounting degrees.

For accounting in N Cal - I’d take a close look at Chico, Sonoma and Sac (perhaps SJSU). All have solid - well respected programs and in-state tuition.

My understanding is all BS accounting programs have been expanded to 150 semester units - meaning 5 years full time - and a bigger bite with out of state tuition. Though, 6 years to graduate from a 5 year program is hardly rare.

Not sure if that helps or hurts…

Good luck

Thank you for your reply. I actually accepted it yesterday. I figure that accounting programs cover most of the same material if they’re accredited by the AACSB. I said my GPA in my original post though and it’s a 3.81 for transferable credits. The other school I wanted was the University of Utah, but they don’t offer wue to transfer students so the tuition is $25,267, and if I’m gonna pay that much, I might as well wait and try a prestigious private school or a better known state school like University of Illinois.
