Help please!

So I applied to Macaulay Honors at Hunter because my guidance counselor thought that I am eligible and might have a chance of admittance, there. Hunter has my future major: Political Science; however, I am not really liking the Chinese language minor that they offer. The Chinese language is taught with traditional characters, which don’t really excite me because right now I am learning Simplified and well I don’t want to go through the whole issue of learning traditional characters when in China they use simplified. CUNY Hunter does offer a very affordable tuition and I can just commute there everyday, about 45 minutes on the train. Though it may seem good for me, the Chinese minor really concerns me. I have been learning Chinese since 9th grade and now being a Senior, I don’t want to lose the language. I think getting rejected would be good because I can apply to Baruch or another college that offers Chinese as a minor. I don’t have an idea of what to do because I don’t want to learn traditional if I get accepted to Hunter and study Chinese as a minor. To better shape my question, what do I do in this situation? What options do I have besides being rejected from Macaulay at Hunter?

Well as a Political Science major in the Macaulay Honors Program at Hunter I can tell you that the Political Science faculty is awesome and I really mean that. You do also realize that Hunter has a very well established Chinese program. In fact Hunter just won a huge grant which will give students the opportunity to achieve total fluency. My understanding is that through this new program you receive one hour of free practice a day with a native speaker and get a paid year abroad in China. I also had heard that they were reserving spots for interested Macaulay students. I don’t have the original Macaulay email on me but here’s a link which gives some minor details about the program.

Try asking the Chinese department about it, they should be able to tell you more. Lastly just keep in mind that the dorms at Hunter are free so please don’t turn down the option unless you really have a compelling reason to do so!

Cheers,
