I just got my semester grades in and apart from honors pre cal, the lowest was an 86. Unfortunately I did really poorly on my pre cal midterm exam and brought my semester average for the class from a 73(pretty bad but I have always struggled with math) down to a 68. Before anyones panics, I absolutely will not be studying engineering or any other math intensive major. I have been working intensely with my pre cal teacher all year now and I asked her to write me one of the recommendations because she knows me so well and could help explain my mediocre math grade. Should I try and ask and see if there is anything that can be done to raise my grade to a 70? Nonetheless have I ruined any chances I had of getting into Columbia or is there still a sliver of possibility that my strengths can compensate for my math problem?

No one can really just say anything ruins or disqualifies your chances of admittance but it will be tough to get in with a C much less with a D considering Columbia has so many strong applicants. Do your best to try to raise it to a C. No one knows if your chances are over just keep your GPA up now that it has probably dropped. So maintaing A’s is crucial.

And here I was worried about my A- in Calculus BC…
