Help!! Query

Hi guyz
I applied EA in umich y’day and in the essay i wrote about how difficult it was for me to for to move to another country when my father did his masters degree. In reality it was difficult for.my sisters who experienced that and not me since it happened years before i was born. So i wrote their hardships from my own perspective whereas it can be easily seen that my dad did is masters in 1981 in the family section. So is it massive error on grounds for disqualification? Do i still have a chance. I wrote only 4 lines on it in my supplement essay but im still worried. Its not that i lied i did happen in my family but the admissions people dont know that. Please respond. It wont be seen as a lie right?

Ouch, that’s a tough one. Depends on bit on how the prompt was worded…if they wanted your experience and you sold them your sister’s experience…they might not like that at all. They want to get to know you, after all, and not your sisters. This gets particularly sticky because you marketed these events as though they happened to you personally…which, lets face it…is dishonest.

I don’t know what to tell ya. If push came to shove…I don’t think they’d like this at all.

On the plus side…I doubt with fifty thousand applications to process…that anyone will notice your Dad’s graduation date, do the math, and put 2 and 2 together. They’re not going to strap you to a lie detector to confirm anything about your essays…nor will they likely ever ask about anything you wrote. You’ll either get accepted or rejected.

I could be completely wrong on this…but I think the chances of you getting caught in this lie are pretty minimal.

That said, I don’t think it was a good idea at all, and I hope you never do it again in the future.

I think you should have falsified your dad’s graduation date…

I did early action so its 3000 applications. High chances of seeing it. I didnt intend to convey a lie though. Hope it all goes well but if they find out it might get nasty…
