HELP: Questions about common app family section

My mother is unemployed in the 2025 year, but in 2024 she is employed on the tax form. Do I put she is unemployed on the common app? common app didn’t ask about the year so I just assume they are asking about now.

Also, my parents are legally married and reports tax together as a family, but they don’t live together, one lives in california one lives in Georgia, is it ok if I put “seperated” on common app?

Use her current status but for FAFSA or CSS you will provide what is asked. These questions on common are likely more for demographics.

Not living together doesn’t mean separated. Are they legally separated ? If not, then don’t say so. Again, demographics is likely all this is.

Based on your previous posts, I wanted to give you a “heads up” about the applications and this admissions procedure when applying to US colleges.

You need to be as truthful as possible.

Please fill out the information that is requested. Don’t guess. If you don’t know, ask. Ask your counselor or teacher. Ask your parents. There is almost always a contact link and phone numbers to the colleges, if you have questions.

You can ask here, but it is a website based on others’ experiences and may or may not apply directly to you.

Don’t bend the truth to fit the forms. These schools are extremely knowledgeable and savvy and can figure out when information doesn’t fit. They will act on it.

Remember, when you sign a college application (digitally) you are indicating that everything you have presented to them is the absolute truth to the best of your knowledge.

The universities are very strict about integrity and being honest on all applications. They will request tax and sensitive information from you, if you are applying for funding. Be direct and answer the questions.
