Wow- I just stumbled on this and agree with Dean J. This message board can get a bit heated. I had one child graduate from BC and one is currently at UVA (who was offered Honors college at BC, and admission to other prestigious schools), and I am a bit offended by the digs at BC. BC is full of extremely bright, well-rounded kids, and we found it to be quite similar to UVA, both in the academics and the student body. BC son and his friends have done extremely well post graduation, and have found that having a BC diploma carries a lot of prestige in the business world. (BC son is also doing as well as his many UVA friends.) The ties at BC are also lifelong and incredibly strong. That being said, I feel equally as passionate about UVA and all that it has offered my other child. I love UVA!! There are many fabulous schools out there which in no way detract from the prestige of UVA. I think when one compares the “top” schools it often comes down to the “best fit”, both socially and in one’s particular area of study (and for many families, money). Is McIntire ranked higher than BC’s Carroll School or Management?-- yes… but I know quite a few BC kids just 5 years out of school (with a 4 year degree) making 6 figures in business (as are some UVA grads). BC also is a Jesuit school which gives it a special cache, in my opinion- if that’s important to someone. (There is a passionate school-wide commitment to community service.) My point is, once you get to a certain level, it really doesn’t matter to employers, etc. If you have done well, it will show and you will DO well. So please, UVA is fabulous; be proud to be a Wahoo, but there is no need to put down other top notch schools.
