CMC offers STEM majors through the Integrative Science Institute. If these don’t seem as interesting to you, rank it just above CalTech (it’s still a great college and the QB scholarship is a really good one.)
Rank Scripps in its stead.
I wouldn’t delete colleges unless you’re sure that even with a full ride you wouldn’t attend (considering they’re all world class, I would be skeptical it’s the right choice, except CalTech if you’re not interested in research.)
Did you mean to say world class instead of works class?
Yes - typo - will correct. Thanks
I think you are confusing Amherst College - no engineering with UMASS which is in Amherst and has engineering. And is not a QB school.
Amherst and UMass Amherst are part of a consortium. I don’t think OP could get their degree at UMass but could take engineering classes of interest. It doesn’t seem optimal but could work.
Depends - pre reqs and more. OP would have to check.
They may not do engineering but the other majors can be done anywhere but engineering can’t.
That’s why choosing a school with makes more sense - keep the option open.
Lafayette meets need. It’s not on QB but might be worthy of an app.
Swat and W&L are on QB and have engineering although W&L isn’t accredited by ABET.
I unfortunately can’t add any other colleges to my match list, it’s too late. I can only drop and move around. On the same line as Myo said, I’m hesitant to drop because they’re all world-class universities, but at the same time I’m kicking myself for not adding more colleges that have engineering as a major. For now, I’ll apply to physics where there’s physics and engineering where there’s engineering.
OK - but you might look at Lafayette, Swat, and W&L as meet needs LAC schools with engineering - in addition to…Union College as well
Lafayette, Lehigh and Bucknell are LAC type schools that offer engineering. Lafayette is the smallest and meets full need. Not sure about the others. The only drawback is they’re in Pa. Not near California. Might be worth an application. They’re excellent schools.
Once you’ve reordered your QB colleges, you can use your QB app to complete CommonApp (if you haven’t yet) and apply to some colleges there. Most of the work is done anyway and some have EA deadlines Nov 1 or Nov 15 so you’d have an early reply just in case you’re not matched through QB.
I suppose you’ve been working on your UC/CSU apps, too.
True - but either is much of the list - and it fits better than much of the list.
As a QB finalist, OP is limited to what other apps they can put in before match results come out on December 2.
If OP doesn’t match on Dec 2, they can then roll their QB app to any QB partner school (some will even allow ED 1 or EA at that point) and they can also get non QB apps in for RD.
Exceptions to the QuestBridge Early Application Policy
- Students may apply to any college or university that requires an early application for eligibility to special scholarships or programs, as long as the admissions decision is non-binding.
- Students may apply to their home-state public college or university with a non-binding early application option, as long as applying to QuestBridge does not violate that college’s policies.
- Students may apply to any college or university with a non-binding rolling admission process.
That’s still quite a lot of EA apps that can be done and are due soon (all EA colleges with scholarship programs+ UC&CSUs).
Guessing that’s why people are suggesting some non QB universities.
I agree OP should get their app in to CSUs and UCs.
ETA: USC is on OP’s list and USC allows an unmatched finalist to roll their QB app in to the EA round if they go unmatched. But we are hoping OP matches!!
UCs and CSUs do not have EA or ED, but their regular application deadline is 11/30.

Yes, I submitted my CSU app and I’m done with my UC PIQs as well as my personal statement. I’m using this month to brush them up and work on my RD list! A lot of QB schools let me roll my app over into RD, which I’ll do if I don’t match.
They all do. Some will also allow unmatched finalists to roll into ED1 or EA.
If you don’t match, you are going to have go school by school to see the rules and pay close attention to deadlines, both for schools you ranked and those you didn’t rank.
Here’s USC’s directions for unmatched finalists who ranked the school:
Finalists who ranked USC in the Match but did not match with another school may request to be considered for Early Action admission to USC, which is non-binding.
If you are interested in being considered for Early Action admission after the Match, please fill out the USC Early Action Request Form in your USC Applicant Portal, available after the Match process. Please fill this form out by December 9.
Amherst lets unmatched finalists roll into ED, if that’s what they want (I am not necessarily saying to do that, just giving you info)
Finalists who ranked Amherst for the Match and were not matched with a QuestBridge partner school may apply to Amherst College Early Decision.
Students must submit first marking period grades (sent directly from your school to questbridge@amherst.edu, the signed Amherst College Early Decision Agreement Form and the Amherst College Early Decision Supplement to the QuestBridge Application by Friday, December 6 by 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
Here’s the page with all the schools and their directions for unmatched finalists:
you’re AMAZING!!! i appreciate this so much
If you want to be an engineer - do engineering. Seriously - do not plan on a 3/5, find a school who will support you day one. All the folks who talk about Physics for undergrad are not FGLI - they have no idea how hard this is - it’s really really easy for students who have a support system - it is NOT for those who are figuring it out for the first time. I hope you match, but if you do match to a school who doesn’t have engineering take a beat. There are lots of paths,
