Help Requested - Why Do I Want to Go to Peddie?

My mom said I could go to Peddie if I had a valid reason as to why I want to go. She also said that I had to tell her how its different from my current public school. Of course, I’m don’t expect all of you to answer this question for me, but can anyone tell me what to include in my response?

MODERATOR’S NOTE

You are misunderstanding the purpose of College Confidential, which is to assist you, not do the work for you.

You would probably get a better quality of response if you listed your reasons, and asked others to edit /add? Additionally, your headline “I have a question?” is vague and will not draw other users to open the thread; I’ve changed the thread title to give some clue about the subject matter.

On the Prep School Parents forum, there’s a thread entitled “why do you send your kids to prep school.” If you ignore the griping, some of the ideas there might give you a place to start.

Well, why did you want to attend and why did you apply to BS in the first place? It worries me that you were accepted to a school yet have no idea what you like about it…

I think that the poster meant to ask for advice on how to approach the response - The school has outstanding academics, opportunities not available at LPS, advantages for boarding school environment. I think that it is possible to feel that a school is a better fit without being able to pinpoint exact reasons and justifications for the costs.

It is a good exercise for introspection to verbalize and understand the reasons why you will be asking your parents for this opportunity.

To all of you; I love the school and have done TONS of research on it! And yes heart burner, that is what I was asking. I know exactly what I love about the school but I was just asking how to make the most persuasive, convincing response. In the question I specifically stated that I don’t want all of you to answer for me I was just asking advice as to what to include in the response… I’m asking your opinions because I really want to go and just want to influence my parents as much as possible

Parents want the best for their kids - try going down that road as a strategy and see what happens.

Again, it’d be better to state on here what you love about Peddie and let us help shape what you have into a persuasive presentation.

Oh I see! I misunderstood your question then. I’m sorry for jumping to conclusions, @ajsmiles12.

What passions are you planning on pursuing at Peddie? You can use your passion for so-and-so to fuel your reasons to attend Peddie.

It’s different from your current LPS because when Peddie does searches for faculty vacancies, I believe it is selecting from a wider pool of strong candidates than most LPS do. In my opinion, that yields a committed, diverse faculty who are self-selecting in their desire to mentor you in the classroom and without. They will, along with classmates and the residential environment, provide a “second family”, another support group. to see you through the inevitable ups and downs of the teenage years. That is the promise of boarding schools that I find altogether distinctive from the public school system; they are more focused on developing you holistically. If it works as planned, you will have more opportunities to flourish at Peddie than at your LPS, particularly if it has two or three or four times more students than Peddie’s 550. ~O)

I gather that OP is asking for information they do not know. Well, here’s something for you: Peddie has a very nice campus plan. And buildings in a variety of architectural styles, including those of the trends of the last thirty years.
