I am using TurboTax. This year’s version is PITA. It won’t let me input numbers without going through their tedious process. I got this item on my brokerage form, section 199A dividends. What do you have to do?
I’m not in front of my TurboTax program right now to check, but I had the same thing on one of my 1099s. You can either import your 1099DIV into TurboTax or enter it manually. When you enter the amount in box 5 (the sec. 199A dividends), TurboTax will put it on the correct forms for your return.
What “tedious process” are you referring to? What version of TurboTax are you using? I use the downloaded software, not the online version.
I meant the walk through. I also use the downloaded. TurboTax won’t let me put the number. Is the Box 5 in the dividend section?
I wasn’t forced to go through the walk-through, always using the “explore on your own” or whatever it’s called.
If you have a 1099-DIV with Sec. 199A dividends in Box 5, you should be able to go into forms mode and manually input the amount in Box 5 of that 1099-DIV. If you want to stay in interview mode, it will ask you if you received any 1099-DIVs. You will answer yes and it will ask you questions about them. It will have you fill in the amounts in Box 1, Box 2, etc. It should ask you about Box 5, I think. As I said, I don’t have the program open but that’s how it works.
