Hello, I am senior in high school. I am currently enrolled in Research in Molecular Biology or Resmol for short. The class is connected to Waksman Student Scholars Program at Rutgers, as it is research based. It well help tremendously for my college application, as I will be applying to Rutgers. Here’s the bad part: in both Biology Honors and AP Biology, I ended up with a C+. I am not sure if I should continue with this course or drop it. If I should, what can I do to improve my skill set? I rank severely low with many of my fellow peers in class. They have taken at least 6 AP’s throughout their entire school career and have done relatively well. I am an average student. Let me know what I should do, thanks!
I think you should talk to your teacher and ask for their advice on if they think you can be successful in this course. However, if you really struggled with Biology in the past (which it seems like you might have given the C+s), I might recommend dropping it.
But that’s why I am confused. Even after I got those C+s, I strongly feel that if I work hard enough with proper planning, I might succeed. But I am having second thoughts. I don’t want to regret taking the class.
I don’t give up but at the same time I don’t want to fail. Don’t know what to do.
Bump
Well, if you get a C+ you show perseverance.
Oh… K
I mean, it’s better if you get A’s, obviously. But two C+'s leading you to take an advanced research class, it shows up prioritize intellectual curiosity over grades, are perseverance , two qualities holistic admissions look for.
The downside is if you can’t get a C+ in that class but get a D… and if the third C+ lowers our GPA too much… It’d hurt rather than help.
What does your professor say?
My bio teacher says that I needed better organizational skills. Personally, I am shy and I have social anxiety. So if I have any questions or anything, I can’t speak up. As you can see in my original post, everyone else are incredibly smart while I rank low. I know I can do better but I can’t speak up.
