Hi everyone, I am new here and I am in a great dilemma. I am an international student and I got into Wharton, at the time of my application process I was quite sure I wanted to study business so I only applied to universities with strong business programs, however, I am not so sure I want to study business for undergrad anymore and I am leaning towards a liberal arts degree, nevertheless, I am sure I want to go into business after graduation. I think I have a good chance of getting into any of HYPS, so would it be convenient to take a sabbatical (I already have some plans) or just go to Wharton and minor in something? Are HYPS worth it? Thank you!!!

You got into Wharton, it’s hands down one of the best undergraduate business schools in the country…
But if you are very willing to consider, defer your enrollment at Wharton another year, and apply next year to other places :D(I’m not sure if that’s legal though, you need to check…)

But losing a Wharton admission(especially as an international student, as UPenn is need-aware, that is, if you’re asking for FA) is something you should really think carefully about. It may be a one-time chance. :)

Plus, if you’re sure you’re going into business, a Wharton Undergrad degree is simply invaluable, and certainly on par with the HYPS.
So if you’re going into business later on, I’d say it’s not worth it.

Can’t you transfer into Penn CAS from Wharton? Unless you only want a HYPS liberal arts degree.

^^^^^^^^

Agreed. Even if you have to start at the b-school, once there it should be an easy switch.

I personally dont think it is worth it, you should be grateful you got into Wharton which is arguably on par with harvard admissions. If you want a liberal arts education you could minor in Penn’s cas, and if that is not enough you could transfer to it. If you want to go into business/ finance after graduation Wharton gives you unparalleled opportunities, harvard and princeton are right behind but yale and stanford dont even compare. In other words, I think that for the business minded student Wharton is almost always the better option (diregarding financial and serious “fit” issues) Plus, you get to have more fun at penn ;)

I think you should easily be able to switch/ transfer to CAS.

Go to Wharton, but design your program to include as many liberal arts classes as possible the first year, and a minimum of business-oriented courses. Wharton is too good to pass up at this point and you can always transfer to Penn’s liberal arts program or to another school.

OneMom, yes that sounds as the most reasonable thing for the OP to do
