Help & Suggestions Please

I am only a 10th grader, but it has always been my dream to attend UPenn. I was wondering if anyone could give me any other tips on what I should improve on/focus on. I know its still a little early to say, since I don’t have any standardized testing. Obviously grades matter as well, but if anyone could point out any weaknesses and answer my questions below that would be great! (Also, I don’t have and don’t think I will have any leadership positions…will this hurt my chances a lot?)

10th Grade
AB Calculus AP
Chinese AP
Chemistry AP

10th Grade Summer

Should I go to UPenn Precollege program and take Micro and Macro economics AP, or should I go to China to teach the underprevilged English (110 hours of community service)?

11th Grade
BC Calculus AP
US History AP
Stats AP
Englsih Lit AP
Biology AP
(also, does anyone know of any easy AP’s? I heard that compartive gov is not too bad maybe pychology, enviromental sci??, … any others?)

11th Summer
Internship
(Precollege) Not sure which summer I should do which…
(Volunteer)

Extracurriculars
Varsity Swimming
Varsity Water Polo
JV Crew
Newspaper Writer (I know I need more clubs…ugh will this hurt me a lot!!!)

I’m trying to get a minimum of 8 AP’s (for that nation AP scholar award), but I could get 10-11 if I do the precollege so just in case if I get a 3 in 1 or 2 I can still get that award (lowest grade 4).

For swimming, I’m trying to make the All-American. I probably won’t be recruited or anything, but maybe its a small plus?

What should I work on and how should I work out my summer? Thanks for your help!!!

You shouldn’t help underprivileged children in China just because you want to get into Penn. ^^ Do everything for the right reasons. You’re schedule will be competitive enough to get into Penn, just get competitive scores, write good essays, and try to get a leadership position somewhere. Its too early to project your chances right now, but make sure you do everything you do for the right reasons (priorities, education…).

ditto calamity jane.

thanks for your suggestions. obiviously I WANT to do both, but I have a hard time deciding which one to do, but they’re over the same period of time. I want to help people, but I also want to take economics (since my school won’t let me take it).

i think penn precollege is better

because your lack of other leadership positions make your volunteering in china look wierd…just my opinion though…

also do things for the right reasons =)
