I recently did my 2011 taxes and the notary put that i pay for school even after i told him i got FAFSA. In this case am i going to be charged the money later on? if i am is there any way i can fix this problem? i just dont want any problems with the IRS… someone please help me!

thanks!

You don’t “get” FAFSA. FAFSA isn’t money. The FAFSA is an application to determine eligibility for federal financial aid.

Your question isn’t very clear. What do you mean by “am I going to be charged the money later on?”

A notary did your taxes? Are you sure?

What exactly are you talking about? If you received scholarships in excess of qualified educational expenses (which include tuition/fees/books), you ARE required to pay taxes on that amount. You should have received a 1098T from your school and you should also be keeping your OWN records regarding what you are paying YOURSELF.

If you received any scholarships or grants that covered room and/or board, you ARE required to pay taxes on that money.

As noted by Patsmom…the money didn’t come from the FAFSA. It came either from the federal government or your school.
