First my D’s cat ate several of my computer keys, which made typing a tad dificult.

Now, a few minutes ago, she came to sit on top of the keyboard to be petted. And somehow the screen suddenly turned horizontal. I can’t read a thing I’m typing without craning neck into an L. I’m dying here, and we can’t find the computer’s instruction manual.

Sure, keep laughing VeryHappy. Join my husband. I smuggled the kitten into the house and my D and I didn’t tell my husband for a couple of days that a cat had joined the family. He’s telling me it serves me right. So keep laughing, the both of you. Grumble grumble.

from another site -
Right-click on a blank area of your desktop and select “Properties”. Click
on the Settings tab, then the Advanced button. Since you didn’t state what
video card your computer has (ATI, nVidia, GeForce, etc.) I can’t tell you
where to go exactly from there, but go through each of the tabs until you
find the rotation setting you are looking for.

another site …

Ctrl-Alt-Up - right side up

Ctrl-Alt-Right - 90 degrees

Ctrl-Alt-Down - 180 degrees

Ctrl-Alt-Left - 270 degrees
(If that doesn’t work, try Ctrl-Shift-R)

This is a feature in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. Which makes sense. But it looks like ATI Intel copied the keystroke for the same “feature” in their video card drivers. I can’t think of a good reason why I would need an always-on keystroke for this on a desktop PC.

When creating a keystroke-mapped feature that only 1% of your customers will want to use and the other 99%[1] are going to be confused by, put in a menu option to disable it and have it disabled by default.

To fix the issue press Ctrl-Alt-Up. To permanently fix the problem go to:

Start >> Control Panel >> Display >> Settings >> Advanced

I tried a simple re-boot (puss n’ boot?) but that tried and true remedy didn’t work. When I came back on, I read your prescription, and tried the simple way. I figured the solution had to be on the keyboard, since the cat changed it only with her paws. So my paws had to be able to right it, right?

The control+alt+up key did the trick.

Thank you thank you thank. My neck thanks you. And the kitty can now come out of the dog house.

I’d like to say I’m a dog person, but today my dog ate the coffee cake our wonderful neighbor gave us as thanks for taking care of her dog last week.

So No, today I am NOT a dog person.

But I don’t think I’ll EVER be a cat person again.

So what are you going to tell your neighbor? “Your delicious cake disappeared in the blink of an eye.” or “your cake just got wolfed down, it was so good”.

glad I found a solution. I love looking things up!

We have Sarge Coonhound, a crazed food thief. We had the garbage under the kitchen sink. We had to put baby locks on the cabinets to keep him from opening them. (can also open drawers though never when we are home to figure out the method) Two weeks ago DD came in and found both cabinet doors ripped off and doors and garbage on the kitchen floor. sigh. I *think he managed to get both doors open as far as the locks moved, then leaned his weight down and in on the doors. He is on high priced diet dogfood - 107 lb big baby.
His partners in crime - Toby Sheltie, Phantom (of the Opera) maine cooncat mix and the sneaky and smug Emerald Kitty were circling the wagons. Sarge was off in his bed pretending to be deaf.
We found out people pay over $100 for special dog-proof metal kitchen garbage cans. agggh. We’re trying one last cheapie method.
Apart from a hound drive to find food, and in some (NOT mine) a pleasure in roaming far away if not in fenced yard, they make the very best housepet.
here is where Sarge came from …

^^ You have a cat named Emerald Kitty?? Not named after our own EmeraldKity, was she? Yikes, wouldn’t that be weird if we started naming our pets after CC posters? :)

Her name - given at the shelter - was Emerald. She has very green eyes. We often call her Emerald Kitty for some reason. I think we’ve had her 9 or more years now. It’s a blur. The CC poster must be named after her. Curmugeon might be a good name for a crabby cat (since they never answer to much but kitty kitty or the Magic Can Opener sound) or a tough small dog.
Emerald was sooo sweet at the shelter, thrilled to be held, purred all the time. Arrived here, purred, played with toys, etc. 24 hours later it was buzz off people, I’m a Queen of the Universe. Only in the last 2 years has she bothered with us without tuna being part of the picture. Even with that she is more likely to sit next to you than on your lap. She is quite fond of sleeping wrapped around the top of your head, which we have strongly discouraged.
Phantom on the other hand is the Best Cat Ever. Loves everyone, all the time. Emerald hates him and all cats and dogs. This has led to a sad cat state of affairs, since he will tease her for entertainment.

We have what I fondly refer to as “garbage in a drawer” – you know, where the garbage bin is in a slide-out drawer. We’ve had to rubber-band the handle of the garbage drawer to the handle of the cutlery drawer right above it, so no doggies get in the garbage. So far, that seems to work.

But, with younger son going off to college in the Fall, we’ve decided to get another dog. Said puppy was just born on Saturday last and will be joining the family at the end of April. Will TWO dogs be able to snap a rubber band? Stay tuned!

warning, warning. danger! The rubber band was what led to the doors being ripped off I think. backstory is we installed the garbage in a drawer, he figured out how to open the door. the pull out mechanism got broken - forget if heavy use or heavy dog attack did it in. He figured out quickly how to open the doors. NO CLUE how - paws, teeth, psychic skills.
then we put in babylocks. He worried at them I guess, and the left door (garbage behind right door) opened a bit farther. So we rubber banded the two together. I think what happened is both then opened a bit and he could get a paw over each one, and since they were attached the effort moved the hinges rather than the doors or the baby locks. Some day I’ll find a nanny-cam owner and leave it running when we are out, just to learn how he does it.
We used to have a bread drawer. sigh. how does a dog open a drawer with a round knob? how can a dog who opens drawers have zero interest in that stupid treats-in-a-toy gismo I bought?

OMG… I shutter to think… although “Curmudgeon” fits at least one of our cats. And we have another who is nuts and walks sideways after being hit by a car. “Xiggi” would be a perfect name for her.
