I will be attending MIT graduate school of engineering beginning this fall. I would like to learn about MIT graduate student life. Where do I start? I tried looking up MIT’s website but didn’t find anything that helpful. Could you guys please refer me to any helpful websites or blogs?

Anyone??? Molliebatmit, I might need your help here…

I don’t know what you mean,

lol, “graduate student life”. what’s that?

Something like this pebbles:

[Graduate Student Life - University of Maryland](http://www.union.umd.edu/GSL/)

LOL

Hmm. There aren’t a lot of grads on this board.

One thing that I gather makes MIT different from some other universities is that it’s okay for grad students to participate in student activities. Also, there are a lot of grads involved in the club sports scene, which is pretty big.

At MIT, “graduate student life” is conceptualized by department. Thus, if you visit the Course 8 website (physics) and click on “graduate students” you’ll find information about organizations and activities for graduate physics students. So start with your own department. Beyond that, the MIT Graduate Student Council website provides information about organizations and activities: [MIT Graduate Student Council](http://gsc.mit.edu/)
There’s additional information on the website sponsored by the Office of the Dean for Graduate Education: [Office of the Dean for Graduate Education](http://web.mit.edu/odge/index.html)

Thank you so much guys. Your responses were indeed very helpful.

I have another question. I am looking into buying a cell phone with either At&T or Verizon. My only concern is which of these sevice provider has better reception on MIT campus. Any suggestions?

Verizon is generally accepted as the best provider on campus, from what it sounds like. I have Verizon and I’ve never had any reception problems (I use my phone mostly in my room - but most people have trouble with reception in my room). My friends who have AT&T hate the reception.

Between AT&T and Verizon? That doesn’t even remotely resemble a contest.
Verizon >>>>>> AT&T (I’ve had both).

I can’t remember Verizon ever failing me (and there have been times when that came in very handy). AT&T, um, failed me all the time. I was surprised when I did get reception.

Thank you so much PiperXP and jessiehl. I am definitely going to go with Verizon now.

Wow MIT Grad School. How tough is it to get into that? as tough as undergrad? tougher? :O

Each MIT graduate program does its own admissions, so it’s not really appropriate to talk about the difficulty of getting into grad school at MIT in general.

Overall, most programs are very competitive and difficult to get into, but they do require a different set of credentials from undergraduate admissions.
