HELP to Reach the Next Level

I have never taken the ACT but have begun to prep using practice tests. I have been using PR: Cracking the ACT and have the REAL ACT BOOK with the 3 practice tests that I am saving to take closer to the September testing date. I read through all of PR and seem to have the hang of it pretty well. I have been doing pretty well on the tests, but my improvement has begun to level off. I was wondering if any high-scorers had advice as to bump up my score through other prep books, prep tests etc.

My goal is a 34 composite and it looks as though my improvement has slowed a couple points shy of that. My practice information is as follows, in the order of taking the test.

Composite Scores

  1. PR Prac (Original, before review): 28*
  2. PR Prac: 32
  3. ACT.org 2008 Prac: 32
  4. Kaplan Online: 29
  5. ACT. org 2006 Prac: 32
    Overal Avg: 30.6 (31)

Subsection Scores…Averages (Composite Avg):
English: 29 33 30 28 32 = 30.4 (30)
Math: 29 34 30 31 31 = 31.0 (31)
Reading: 33 32 36 30 36 = 33.4 (33)
Science: 21 27 30 28 30 = 27.2 (27) *low avg due to 21 score on initial prac test

Maybe you could reccomend good books for particular subsections that I could use to improve. My reading score so far appears to be strong, but maybe i should buy Kaplan because it is notorious for improving reading scores to make sure I score high in my strong area in September. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

You could try Barron’s. It is overkill but it can help. You can also try retaking tests over and see what you get.

thanks for the help. anyone elseo have an idea? do you think i should buy the barron’s book that is really hard or the kaplan book that is more accurate for the next practice tests to see what i get? is there one you would recommend for someone already scoring in the low 30s?

kaplan book

thnx reloadedxp, i was thinking the same thing since they are more accurate but a little harder. ill go get those then!
