Help! Tours When Schools Aren't in Session - Are student Union, Libraries, etc. still open?

We have a few tours planned and I noticed one, U Mich is on MLK Day. The actual formal tour is the next am, but we have to rush and fly out before tour is even over. Arriving a day early to check out the area and campus and MLK day just came up on me.
Any suggestions? Anyone have ideas specifically for a UMich tour, like places students visit off-campus? Many thanks

There won’t be classes on Monday, but the university is having MLK events scattered around campus including the Michigan Union, so those buildings will be open. I think the libraries will be operating with normal hours. You might not be able to enter some classroom buildings without an MCard. Here is the university’s link to a self-guided walking tour:

Remember that as you tour a school, if you aren’t on a formal tour, do not consider lack of access on a self guided tour to be a negative.

Imagine your child is at that college, how much access do you want random people to have to them?

Thank you!

You could go get a sandwich at Zimmerman’s!

Thank you. That name keeps coming up, so i sounds like it’s worth checking out.

Any other places where students might be hanging out on a day off from school when it will literally be ZERO degrees ! Thanks so much!

It’s Zingerman’s, not Zimmerman’s – but, yeah, it’s a must.

Any chance you could find a student who graduated from your high school to talk to? One of my kids toured colleges when things were shut down during the pandemic. Talking to a local student was helpful

That’s what I get for typing on my phone. Thanks for fixing.
