Help Understanding the Essay?

Hi, CC! I’ve taken two SAT’s now, and am preparing to take my third (In a row, lol. I was a bit late starting) this saturday. This is my last chance to do well before EDII for Vanderbilt, so I’ve decided to give prep a shot. My main question for the thread is this: how important is the essay? Cross multiplication makes me think it’s around 20 total points per point on the essay, is this accurate? Also, I began with a 9 and came up to a 10 with better organization on my second test…is 10 a safe score to try to recreate, or should I be looking for improvement in both the essay and multiple choice this time around? Thanks guys!

The essay accounts for around a third of the Writing score. In order to get a high score (even an 800) in writing, a 10 is definitely sufficient (I know someone who scored 800 with only a 9). I would just work on the multiple choice for now. Do lots of practice tests, and make sure you review all your mistakes. Good luck!
