@Atria I’m new on this board (since you were applying I mean) and I wanted to say thanks for popping on to give your thoughts on Mx! Super helpful! Best wishes on the college hunt!
Thank you Atria for the very detailed response! It’s great to hear from a current student. Best of luck on college apps.
Great response, @Atria. Thanks for paying it forward and all the best with your college decisions.
Take a look at Pomfret, about 350 students, and hour and half from Boston. My dd was 98% test scores, and I questioned the focus on academics when she applied, but she has taken mostly honors classes and has been plenty challenged (while also enjoying sports and clubs and a social life). Something important to us was the supportive relationships with adults on campus, and I can say that her advisor, the faculty, the coaches are all fantastic. No Saturday classes, but once-a-month half-day programming (on social justice, health and well-being, etc. topics). Dress code this year was loosened a bit. Pomfret is not really a bustling town, but there is a small cafe and convenient store within walking distance. Weekly shuttles to restaurants and stores in nearby Putnam, and regular trips to Providence. I have to admit, the aspect of not having a town to walk to really bothered me when we were visiting. But what we heard (and have now experienced) is that the sense of community is stronger because the kids stay on campus and participate more in what’s happening right on campus rather than dispersing into town every weekend. Feel free to PM me with specific questions.
If you are considering Groton and have any questions DM me, that said it does have Saturday classes and religions commitment once a week, so it might not be the school you are looking for. That said our DS absolutely loves it there.
