HELP! What are my chances for these schools?

<p>Hello. This is my first time posting here, and I was wondering about my chances with getting admitted into the following list of schools:</p>

<p>University of California–Berkeley
University of Washington
University of Wisconsin–Madison
University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill
University of Illionis–Urbana–Champaign
Pennsylvania State University
University of Chicago
Johns Hopkins University
University of Michigan–Ann Arbor
University of Iowa</p>

<p>I know that’s a long list. I’m sure that some of the colleges are out of my range, but here are some scores:</p>

<p>I have a 3.7 gpa. I’m in the top 10% of my graduating class. I am in the National Forensic League for Speech and Debate (three years), National Honor Society, Track Varsity (for three years), Student Council, wrote for school yearbook, and I have won the Silver Cord award for 400 hours of community service. During my senior year, I hope to join the Senior Class Cabinet, too. </p>

<p>Since I plan on going to a community college for the first two years, I have not taken the ACT yet. When I do though, will a 26-28 be good enough for most of these schools? If not, what can I do to better my chances with that? Plus, I still have time to get my gpa up to a 3.8. With all of this said, which schools will I most likely get accepted to, which ones are possible, and which schools are just dream schools that I probably won’t get accepted to? My intended major is Molecular Biology, so are there any other universites that would be good for me? On a last note, I’m from Iowa, so all of these will be out-of-state except for University of Iowa. </p>

<p>PS. Sorry this is the same thread that I started elsewhere. I didn’t realize that this section of the website existed. I’m sorry, and I shall pay more attention to where I should publish threads.</p>

<p>I think that a 26-28 on the ACT should be good enough for some of these schools, but you are probably going to need a 30 for UNC, UMich, UChicago, and Johns Hopkins. Still, it is a lot easier to get in as a transfer than as a normal freshman applicant. best of luck</p>

<p>These schools seem a little out of your range with that predicted ACT. I would work on bringing that up and being instate would help a little too. You should be fine for the others though.</p>

<p>What ACT does Michigan and North Carolina want? I know being in-state for North Carolina would boost my chances up greatly, because it seems that they mostly accept in-staters.</p>

<p>the average ACT for admitted students at Michigan is about a 29. So since you’re out of state, you probably need to get a 30 or better</p>

<p>First off, I would not recommend starting off at a CC. It’s extremely hard transferring out of one, especially into schools on your list, not to mention you’d be far behind your classmates if you were accepted.</p>

<p>Your ACT score would be pretty weak if you did indeed get a 26-28. To get into most of these schools, you would minimally (really, minimally) need a 30-32. If you’re a junior, you have plenty of time to prepare. Take it in June if you want, but I’d recommend studying over the summer and taking it in the fall. Pretty good GPA, strong EC’s. If you break a 32, you shouldn’t have much of a problem at any of these schools except maybe Berkeley and Chicago.</p>
