I hate being in college i am uninterested and unmotivated in my class. i always check the time to see when i can finally leave.
After high school i worked in fast food and went to a vocational school to become certified as a nursing assistant and medical assistant. After finishing the program i worked part as a nursing assistant while going to community college. I had my job so i quit and got another job as a medical assistant at a doctors office. I hated that job as well so then i got a job as a library assistant on campus. Hated that job too but stuck with since it was my last year before i graduated. I changed my major about five times before settling with an associates in general studies. After that i decided to take time and figure out what to major in and who i am. In the mean time o have worked in retail, secretary, restaurants, and other jobs for two years. I decided to go back to college when i was twenty four and was still unsure of what i wanted to study. I’m a year away from graduating with my bachelors in interdisciplinary studies. Got another on campus job and switched my major a few times and want to quit school because i am bored, unmotivated and can’t decide on a major and i hate college.I have taken many career and personality test, volunteered and worked and hate all of my college experience. My ad visors think i should take classes until find something i like. i have taken classes in
English
Sociology
Psychology
Political science
math
accounting
biology
chemistry
geology
history
speech
art
Spanish
french
marketing
literature
web design and development
i don;t think there is any career that i would want to do
should i stay in college or drop out?
not sure what to do but to suggestions
You’re a year away from a degree in interdisciplinary studies. I would stick it out and get the degree.
Statistically, you’re a better job prospect for just about any job with a degree. So stick it out while you decide what you want to do.
Realize that not everyone needs a career— lots and lots of people live very happy lives with a job. (But, again, you’re statistically more likely to get a good job-- and get promoted-- with that degree.)
What don’t you hate? What do you do with your spare time? What would you choose to do if you had more spare time?
I hate sitting in class listening to people speak, having to write papers, and doing endless amounts of homework.
I like being with family and pets. i enjoy doing puzzles, playing games, reading, watch tv, looking at anime, listening to music and chilling with friends.
f i had more spare time i would do all the things on my bucket list.
OK, some of those things definitely fall into the “spare time” category–things that no one will pay you to do.
But why not look into a part time job working with pets? A pet store, an animal hospital, something along those lines? Even volunteer work with a shelter/ rescue group? Maybe that’s an avenue that would bring you some joy, and a career/ job you could consider?
Is there any way you could conclude your degree with online classes, so the “sitting in class” thing would be more comfortable, and at your own speed? Could you look into classes for next year that require fewer papers, less homework?
No matter where you go, there you are. If you are stressed, depressed, anxious, or something similar, it is hard to enjoy any class or job. Do you think that might be part of the problem?
Another issue may be patience. Taking an entry level class in a subject is different from what happens after you get to upper level classes which is different again from working in a field. Similarly, the typical student job in a library or lab is grunt work. But if you look at what the senior people are doing, you can figure out if there’s a role model for where you want to be someday.
I also recommend career testing, where you may be able to identify what situations you do like: inside vs. outside, people or numbers, repeat action vs. unpredictable. Is there a common thread as to what you hate about these jobs?
Maybe you can create a living/career out of what is on your bucket list, ie my friend who is a travel writer.
