Help! What to do about my courses in HS?

Hi all,

I am currently a sophomore in high screwed school, and I really messed with choosing my courses, so now my GPA is screwed. I need help now with choosing the right courses for the remainder of high school, and get my s**the together while I still have time so that I can get in
to a good university.

Some background information :
Unweighted GPA: 3.4
Weighted GPA: 4.15
I am interested in becoming an anesthesiologist, so I want to get into a good university where I ammotivated to do well in, and then go to medical school.
I have already taken the following courses:
Honors biology
honors chemistry
honors pre calculus
honors geometry
honors world history
honors English I
honors English
AP Calculus AB

AP Chemistry
And some useless courses that don’t matter.
So my question to you all is:
What courses should I take, and which AP’s should I take?
So pretty much, write out an entire schedule and some tips for me.

Do you have a list of other classes that are available to you to take for the next few years?

I don’t see why you’re so unhappy with the classes you’ve taken so far. It looks like you’re in the most challenging STEM program in your high school, which is what you would want if you are going to be premed. Although it looks like maybe last year you doubled up on some of those math and science classes thinking you could handle it and still get straight A’s and maybe you think your grades suffered because of this? (There are a lot of kids posting on here who don’t seem to realize that high school classes really are harder than their middle school classes were…)

You’ll need to take a year or two of physics before graduating, and I would recommend BC calculus, AP Bio, and AP stats, if your school offers those. Maybe AP psych. Also, those “useless classes” may not matter to you, but colleges will be looking at them.

If you really want to be an anesthesiologist, you should go look up what classes are required for premeds, what is covered on the MCAT, and what is required for admission at some of the colleges you may want to attend. Think about what you enjoy and what you want to accomplish in high school. Think carefully about what you are going to do if you don’t get into med school and begin planning for that. Then draft out your own high school program, then discuss it with your parents and counselor.

Here is some more info that I should have put into my first post…
My useless classes were;
Microsoft Excel and Access
Compute Programming I
PE/Helath
In which I got all A’s in.

Here is what I am taking next semester;

AP Chemistry
ICM Honors
Honors Law and Justice
Latin II

Here is a link to what my school offers:
<a href=“Panther Creek High School / Homepage”>http://panthercreekhs.wcpss.net/forms/Oldforms/Potential%20PCHS%2010-12%20Course%20Selections%202008-2009.pdf

I know that I want to take a lot of science and math courses;
I already have some set classes for Junior and Senior year…

Junior:
AP Calculus AB (I accidentally put AP Calc on the classes that I already took, but I am taking it Junior year just to clarify)
AP Calculus BC
AP Environmental Science
H. Human Anatomy
AP Psychology

Senior:
AP Biology
AP English IV
AP Statistics

So I just need help with which classes I should take to fill in the gap…I want some fun classes too like Foods I/II and Sports Med I/II

How many classes are you allowed to take per semester? Just wondering.

You are still missing physics. I highly recommend at least one year of physics, even though you will probably take it in college for a science major or as required by med schools. Some premeds you will be competing with for med school admissions may already have completed AP physics and nearly all of them will have had a year of high school physics. I don’t recommend going into the same class with them without any physics preparation.

Also, you need to check your graduation requirements. Don’t you need to take history (our school requires 4 years)? Don’t you need a foreign language (we have a 3 year minimum and colleges prefer to see 4 years).
