Help!!! Where am I supposed to attach my college essay?

Sorry, it's another stupid question, but I'll be glad if you guys could help me on it.
I'm a homeschooler, so I don't know anything about the common app process...
I've written a series of college essays and am trying to pick one from them.
The thing is I don't know where I'm supposed to put it.
I visited and saw that they actually assign us to answer the questions they have given.....?
So does that mean we don't get to write the college essays? I'm so confused.
Are the questions on the common app different from the college essays that we've been told we need to write?
Sorry if this question is such a confusing one... please help if you know what I mean :( !

Look forward to hearing from you guys!!
Thank you :)

P.S. when I visited the website, I checked out what Harvard College had for example.

It sounds like you are confusing the Common App essay with the college-specific supplemental essays. Are you applying for Fall 2014?

I’m planning on applying to college this October! :)

And yes, I think you are right. But I still don’t know where I’m supposed to attach the Common App essay. Do I send it through mail?

For the CommonApp essay, you can just copy and paste into the box. For college specific supplemental essays, you paste them accordingly likewise. You may browse around to see what are the prompts and word limits for different schools, however, these may change next year. The new form will come out in August while the CommonApp essay prompts for next year will be out very soon. School supplements will take a lot longer to come out. It is good too have some drafts on hand that you may simply modify them when it is time for your application. Nevertheless, you are way to early to work on the essays. You better focus on the ACT/SAT, AP, and subject tests for now and leave the essays in the summer. Some students do not realize the subject test requirement until it was too late. The best time to take subject test is in June right after you take the AP tests for the corresponding subjects.
