HELP!Where could I find housing for my parents during the Aug 18th to Aug 24th?

I a new student at Cornell, and I tried to book hotel for my parents today. All the hotels are not avaiable on Aug 19th. My parents really want to come and they booked their flight already. Is there any apartment we could rent for a month or half a month? Or is there anything else we could do?

craigslist is probably your best bet. Look for “summer sublets in ithaca”. Cross reference the location distance-wise to the engineering quad (Upson Hall/Carpenter/Hollister) if that’s an issue.

as we were going to a winery during graduation, I noticed some very small hotels/bed&breakfast places that I had never picked up on my 8 years traveling to Ithaca as a parent…you might try googling those for more info…

Have you tried Cortland. It’s reasonably close and there may be more hotel availability there. Also try places like VRBO to find vacation rentals. Good luck!

I had the same problem and finally found a room at the Johnson City La Quinta. Yes, it’s about 40 minutes away, but I wasn’t charged an arm and a leg either - quite reasonable. They still had rooms left. I’ve stayed in Cortland before but they were all sold out. Hope this helps!

My parents stayed in a Cortland hotel for O-Week, and it wasn’t far at all. If it’s just for O-Week, though, I would personally reccommend having your parents there for three days MAXIMUM. Even though there are events for them until Sunday, I ended up hanging with them last year instead of finding friends for myself, and I ended up being a bit behind everybody else on the social life creation. Not that I didn’t have friends, it just didn’t ease the transition…

Ramada Inn is near campus, or there is a Hilton a little farther away. Probably many more hotels. If they want to stay by the lake, you could even get a B&B. For all this you will have to book soon as closer to O-Week they will all disappear.

I’d go the B&B route since they’ll most likely be closer to Ithaca.

Huge 2nd on the suggestion that they should leave ASAP. My mom essentially moved me into my dorm, took me to Target and Wegmans, and then peaced.
