SAP Appeal Letter
To the ---------- Fin. Aid Dept.
I am writing to ask for an appeal of my disqualification of financial aid following my performance in the summer semester of 2012. My performance in the summer term resulted in two withdrawals, a failure, and ‘C’ grade. The resulting .4 GPA lowered my cumulative GPA to a 1.79, thus disqualifying me from SAP.
The hardship that led to my unsatisfactory performance was a collection of life events that rendered me unable to afford the lab fees for two classes, BA-213: Decision Making W/Account Info, and BA-104: Business Math. Not being able to access the labs in a timely manner resulted in my withdrawal and the 0.0 GPA that it entails.
At the end of spring term, I was a single father of a two year old, employed full-time and attending --------- full time. I enrolled in summer classes to get a head start on my graduation. The financial aid department informed me that ---------- is a ‘leading term’ rather than a ‘trailing term’ school, meaning that the summer term was part of the 2012-2013 school year, and that my financial aid may take up to 12 weeks to process. I submitted my paperwork 06/05/12, fully aware that my income would have to cover the cost of school until my aid arrived. Shortly after, I became a displaced worker. My employer forced me into a leave of absence due to “reorganization”. This inconvenience was supposed to be temporary, but I have not been allowed to return to work since. I still receive paystubs for zero dollars each payday.
Not wanting to fail, I waited for aid to arrive, so that I could access the required online labs. I took odd work as I could find it, working on the other two classes as I waited, passing CJA-140, and receiving good marks in WR-121, prior to failing for missing work. Aid arrived on 8/22/2012. Unfortunately, after not having accessed the labs for so long, I was marked withdrawn.
I have held a 2.0 GPA or higher during winter and spring terms while fully employed, and I know that given the chance, I can excel in the upcoming term, especially with the extra time I have due to my employment status. Family members have stepped in to help with immediate concerns such as housing. To set an example for my daughter by finishing college and advancing my career to a place where I can provide in the way that a complete two-parent family could is all I dream of.
I am willing to commit to a minimum 3.0 GPA, and to following my Educational Plan. Attached are my paystubs documenting my decline in pay to zero. Thank you for taking the time to consider my appeal, I hope that I may prove myself in the upcoming term.

Sincerely,
