Help with becoming well-cultured?

With this thread, I’m hoping to figure out how to become a well-cultured person. I know there are many debates over the creation and implications of a societal canon, but there are definitely works out there that people are implicitly expected to have been exposed to. So, across different media, including both high and low culture, please list artistic works that I should expose myself to.

Some media I’ve thought of:
Books-
Movies-
Music-
Traditional artwork-
Philosophy-
Plays-
Musicals-

Also, please list general areas of knowledge I should learn
about. I’m thinking stuff like architecture, art theory, biographies, clothing, etc.

Feel free to be as specific or as general as you see fit.

Thanks!

No one on CC knows our culture well enough to contribute?

America itself has no real culture – it’s just a mixture of other cultures
there is a widespread propoganda effort to make Americans believe that they are culturally superior.

If you want to become a well cultured person go learn about other cultures, by living somewhere else. Reading books and other stuff only gets you so far… the only way to become well cultured is to immerse yourself with an alternative culture and view things from their perspective

You are definitely right. But as a rising college freshman, my traveling resources are limited, so I figured exposure to media is the best alternative. Are there any pieces you would suggest?
