My D is going through one of those situations that a lot of girls go through from time to time, when their so-called friends aren’t so, well, friendly. Right now she is feeling rather excluded and is feeling kind of lonely. My heart just aches for her, knowing there’s nothing that I can do and that she will just have to see this episode through for herself. In the meantime, I thought about sending her a little something to cheer her up but I have no idea what. Suggestions?

Ok, handbag cures a lot of things. Every time my daughter has a bad moment - boyfriend breakup, best friend betrayl, bad test result - a handbag does the trick. My husband doesn’t quite understands it, but he is not a woman.

You are so right!!! Many of those “cheer up” handbags are now at the consignment store. The boyfriend break-ups do seem to cost alot. Broken hearts can often be tough to repair with just “one” handbag. :)

gymeni-- my mom always sends me a cute card when I’m having a rough time at school. (I wish I got handbags and spa gift cards!) Once she found one that said “Hope life is soon ducky… 'cause right now it’s sucky!” which was really adorable and made me smile. I have it hanging up on my wall now, a few months later.

I’ve done the cheer-you-up cards and also done free ecards which can be fun (and IMMEDIATE!).

My D has gone through similar situations, and while they always do pass and change, it’s rough living through it. I’ve also sent very nominal gift cards for starbucks (her fav) and the video store, things like that.

The other thing I should point out is that many times my D vents with me, I worry and feel all this angst, and then learn she’s “moved on” to other issues while I’m STILL worrying about it!

Thanks so much to all of you for your wonderful suggestions! I’ve decided to incorporate several of your ideas into one “package” for her. Curiouser, I do believe that there is a lot of truth to what you said about the kids venting, leaving us all wound up while they’ve moved on. I appreciate you all!
