Help with College Supplement Essay

One of the colleges that I’m applying to released its supplement essay prompt today. “Tell us about the most significant accomplishment in your life. (Essay should be at least 250 words)”

I was thinking about writing the majority of my essay about nursing my kitten to health after she was abused and malnourished. Then, I could write about all of the personal qualities I developed during the process and how it helps me in everyday life and in achieving my goals.

My question is would this be seen as a “significant accomplishment”? This journey was/is meaningful to me, and I loved seeing my scared kitten be able to trust people again, but I don’t know if this would be considered an accomplishment. What would colleges normally look for with this question?

One more question. It says, “Essay should be at least 250 words.” Should I go for 250-500 words, like the common app essay, or should I stick with around 250 words, maybe with a max of 300-350 words?

Thanks in advance!

Anyone…

Bump, please

I really like your idea! It sounds like you really are passionate about the topic, so I would write that if I were you. I would go with 300-400 words, or as many as you need to tell the whole story.

Thanks! Any other opinions?

Well the question is “your MOST significant accomplishment” - so if that is your biggest accomplishment, then it’s what you should write about! I think that it is an uncommon accomplishment, which will help you. It also is a good thing to write about because it isn’t something that revolved around your happiness/well-being, etc. 300 words sounds good, but if you have more to say, say it - without going over 500 words.

Thank you!
