Would it be okay to write about an academic obstacle for the essay? Would getting a B minus in AP Calc BC after accelerating first semester then getting an A second semester, after a changing work habits, make a good essay topic?

My first instinct is no to the specific example, because the admissions officers can already see your transcript (so they might make that assumption anyway) and it seems to be a story that isn’t unique to you.

If, considering this, you still feel like it’s really important to you and it’ll be a better essay than you’d write any other available topic, then who are we to stop you?
