Help with dinner for 20 high schoolers

How about a big roast beef that can serve 20 people?

Thanks for all of your suggestions. They will really come in handy. Nowq the kids think the want kabobs which I think will be much easier. We can prepare them early and just grill and keep warm in the oven until all are done. Having dinner at our house really wasn’t a surprise a we had aske for the past few ears if they wanted to, but thenumber of kids kind of threw me. We are planning to ask other parents to help and to borrow extra platess since we don’t have enough.

D’s group did this every year for Homecoming, junior year was our turn. H grilled the beef (I think it was flank steak, anyway some others on this thread, like Bulletandpima have already given some great detailed suggestions). Just stay away from anything with sauces that might drip.

We prayed for good weather and held the dinner on the deck. Lots of votive candles and little white “Christmas” lights, fall tablecloths, china, silver, sparkling cider (the kids LOVED that), and it was beautiful.

It was a lot of work, but one of the other moms helped with serving and clean up and we had people bring some of the sides and desserts (most of them volunteered). We took the leftovers which were mostly munchies and desserts to the house where the post-dance party was being held.

It was wonderful. My favorite memory of D’s HS years, hands down.

Tri-tip steak makes the best beef cabobs, IMO (I marinate the meat with wine and vinegar, onions, salt and pepper to tenderize it). I agree that they are much easier to make in advance. I made cabobs for H’s big birthday backyard sit-down dinner (about 20 guests), so it is doable!

I think that’s the key with any kind of beef kabob–marinate, marinate, marinate.

Not to hi jack the thread, but I am always amazed at how many parents come and stay at these events. Seems you have to feed them and water them too, though. Some of the kids had grandparents come, aunts from out of country - granted this was for prom or ring dance, but I think I had 20 kids and at least 30-40 paparazzi parents.
