Help with duvet cover sizes?

Hello!

I’m a rising college freshman with a few questions about duvet covers and comforters.

I’ve decided to bring my comforter from home so I wouldn’t need to waste unnecessary money on a new one, but the problem is that I have no idea what duvet cover size I need to get. I’ve been looking on PBTeens and BBB, but none of the covers they have seem to fit my comforter (200cm x 230cm, which Google says is around 78" x 90"). Can anyone offer me a size suggestion so I can look for the right cover size?

Also…

I found a duvet cover I really liked, but the measurements were 90" x 88" - in other words, it’s 12 inches too wide for my 78" x 90" comforter. Would it be okay if I turned it (so it would be 88" x 90") and put my comforter in that way, or would it not fit?

Sorry for the silly questions, but I’d really appreciate any advice/help!

Well, my first question would be, do you know what the size of the beds at your school are? I ask because mine are different from my bed at home. If you’ve already confirmed that then disregard this, but I just wanted to make sure you were positive about that before moving forward.

I’ve found it is difficult to find duvet covers that fit a comforter sized for a TWIN XL bed. PB Teen has a ton of great duvet covers but they are all sized for TWIN comforters, not TWIN XL. Generally speaking you want your duvet cover to be only slightly bigger than your actual comforter.

Get a cover that is closest in size to your comforter (with no regard to which side is top/bottom) then use large safety pins to secure the corners inside the cover. If you don’t pin (or some duvet covers from Pottery Barn have internal ties at the corners) then the comforter will move around and bunch up inside the cover.
