Help with jeans, again!

Can anyone recommend jeans that don’t fall apart after a couple of months? I have bought several different brands for my daughter and myself and they all fall apart! It is not the seams, but the actual denim, usually in the crotch area, it just shreads. It is hard for my daughter to shop while she is at school, so it is really annoying, not to mention expensive. Any suggestions?

I have never had jeans fall apart. I would take them back. That shouldn’t happen. I’ve bought jeans ranging from Old Navy cheap to designer $200 and have never had a problem. I don’t know what to tell you.

What brands are you currently buying??? When you buy them are they fitting well in “that” area? (not too snug, etc.)

We have bought American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Loft, and Levi’s, all have had the denim shread. One pair shreaded under the waistband, but most are in the crotch. Yes, we are buying well-fitting, if anything a little loose for my daughter because she is an athlete and has large quads, so has to buy to fit her legs. She hasn’t had a problem with Lucky or 7 for all Mankind, but they don’t fit her as well. Any experience with J. Crew jeans? I read that they are made in the USA and a heavier weight denim.

JCrew are good. Limited are good. Madewell (a JCrew company) are excellent.

JCrew are great. The dark denim is definitely heavier. I like the matchstick style, and they fit well for athletic builds. Students/teachers get a 15% discount. One daughter also wears the Madewell jeans, but she is not as curvy.

Ugh, Jean shopping is hard. I usually buy three pairs at the same time if they fit well.

Good luck!

I buy mine at Gap. They last forever. But it sounds like with large quads and fabric shredding in that area the problem could just be that her legs rub and it wears them out. I have a daughter with that problem as well and sometime there is just no getting around it.

I buy mine at Old Navy and New York and Co (the only two place that are long enough). Never had pair fall apart.

Does your daughter ride a bike or a horse? My daughter’s jeans wear out in the crotch because of her bike riding. She just patches and goes on with things.

I’ve never had a problem with jeans from the Gap, also Levi’s generally do wear well also.

Yes, the jeans in the crotch area may be too tight and the thighs most likely wear out the denim. Do you wash your jeans often? I heard ideally you wash it once every 6 months. But I don’t do that. I wash a couple of times a month and air dry them a lot. You could try soaking the jeans in the tub instead of putting it in the washing machine then just hand wash the crotch area. Or use Woolite in the wash in gentle cycle, cold water, inside-out. If your daughter rides a bike often that could explain the wear in the crotch area.

The jeans you mentioned A&F, Lucky, 7 for all Mankind are great jeans. Also Hollister, True Religion and Not Your Daughter’s Jeans. You could try denim therapy. I haven’t used them because if my jeans get an unacceptable tear I just throw them out and buy new ones.

My daughters like the jeans from Delia’s, especially when they’re running a BOGO.

Levi’s used to be indestructible. Nowadays, they are made of inferior denim which does wear out quickly. Even daily running around college campus will wear them out. For ladies with sturdy thighs I recommend going into a Buckle store and trying a few styles on. My athletic kid with muscular thighs and defined waist always liked Joe’s jeans, I think the cut was called “Honey”. Joe’s denim is of very high quality.

I have good luck with Tommy Hilfiger and Lucky jeans. They seem to last longer than most. I also like Not Your Daughter’s Jeans when I can get them on sale.

Whoa! Those Madewell’s sure aren’t anything like the ones I wore in college. Back then they were work pants - nice heavy but soft cotton, loose cut, lots of pockets. Miss those pants.

I just found the Not Your Daughters Jeans (NYDJ) in an outlet last spring and fell in love. The comfort and fit are fabulous. They are wearing very well too. Still look like new.

I second the Lucky jeans. I think they wear well.

I hate jeans shopping and always tell myself that when I find a good pair, I will buy several pair, and I never do.

Just found some at Old Navy, but I have had good success at Tommy Hilfiger. What about Lands End or LL Bean?

It is true that people do wash their jeans too often. I admit that I wash mine about every 3 wears. My S in college would put his in the freezer and wash infrequently. They lasted quite a long time and were quite sanitary.

I haven’t had that problem in general, but that did happen to me when I put on weight. There was then chafing in that area which caused premature wear.

I had to go up a size and that helped-

Try PacSun or Express. Both are high quality jeans that look good
